From Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings by Gabriela Marie Milton- A poem and a Review

frontiers of my being
the hour of sunsets has come
with bare hands I drown you in the coldest seas
red lilies burn you in the hidden valley
predatory birds delight in carnal straps
I run barefoot through streets of no return
I knock on doors
a piece of bread
for my entire heart

oh, itโ€™s midnight
I step into the land of fantasies that are not mine
I play with dreams like children play with kites
fires taller than the sky burst from my pregnant heart
nocturnal marigolds crawl on my skin like ants
I interrupt the voice of number Pi
from the clouds
I rain on you, my love, the silence of the prophets without tongues

was that a ray of light?
skyscrapers yawn
destinies melt in the taste of coffee and mistrust
coughs of cars
the day confines me to the sick banality of its own land
my hands, aquatic pillars of forgotten fantasies
wait like thieves on corners of the streets
for yet another night

And here is a review of Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings that I think I’ve never seen before, and I do not know the reviewer personally.

[Following is a volunteer review of “Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings” by Gabriela Marie Milton.]

Book Cover

4 out of 4 stars

Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings, by Gabriela Marie Milton, is a beautiful book that talks mainly of love and its infinite ways of touching each one of us. It also depicts the true depth of human relationships and emotions, how passion can be malleable, intense, and sometimes difficult to understand completely. What I think is one of the greatest achievements of this book is the diversity it has when it comes to writing: love poems, prose poems, flash fictions, and poems translated in Italian.

The poems are brief, carrying such perceptive and sensorial imagery that they give off the impression of being constantly and infinitely expanding themselves to the universe. They talk about love and how wonderful it is, but also about the disagreements and complexities that come with it. Each poem unfolds different scenery with its very own landscape and emotions. It offers a full repertoire of sensations to explore with all the human senses. The reader will be able to smell, touch, see, taste, and hear everything that the poem narrates, transforming the reading into a unique experience. โ€œThose roses which die in the winter/played the piano last night/a whirlpool of notes and of poems/inscribed on a wall painted in blueโ€ (p.26) Reading these lines, it feels as if you were immersed on them, surrounded by those roses and the whirlpool of notes and poems. Closer to the end of the book you have the Prose Poems and Flash Fiction. These are short stories written in poetic prose, which is a hybrid genre of writing that mixes the attributes and structures of both prose and poetry, meaning you can find short stories divided into brief paragraphs or separated into lines on the page, which is the process known as lineation, used when writing poetry. The stories narrated in these sections address issues like the strength of character, loneliness, obsession, love, family, and every little thing that comes with human relationships. It is exceptionally and beautifully written and it completely captivates the reader and makes him feel the same way the poet does.

The poems and the flash fiction are highly aesthetic, sometimes even rhythmical, and its unique quality is the ambiguity that they offer. It is poetry that suggests multiple interpretations of the words that it uses, and by doing this, it evokes a lot of emotive responses from the reader. Apart from the main topic that the poems address, which is love, they also have abundant cultural references. For example, when Astraea is named, which is a goddess from Greek mythology, or the Guadalquivir which is a Spanish river, or even Garcรญa Lorca, a famous poet. The writer of this book uses symbolism, alliteration, and other figures of speech such as metaphor, metonymy or simile brilliantly and intellectually. She creates a complex yet excellent layering of meanings, forming connections between the verses that were not previously perceived, and it also establishes a resonance or even similarity between images that may seem disparate when you first read them. It is a wonderful book to read if you are interested in a kind of poetry with universal meaning and value.

I recommend this book to poetry lovers who are looking for a kind of poetry that mixes all kinds of different elements, creating a new way of perceiving love. In this book, love can be found everywhere: on the trees or the river, in the soul or inner self, in the scary darkness, in every city of the world. The poems that this book offers are wonderful because they can show the complexity of love and its many branches. I wouldnโ€™t recommend this book to someone who has just started reading poetry because he may find it hard to discover the underlying connections between the verses or understand the very complex and advanced lexicon this poetry has.

I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars because, on the one hand, it is evident that it was professionally edited, with no spelling mistakes whatsoever or errors in the typing. On the other hand, the one I consider the most important aspect of the book, is that it represents the essence of poetry with its characteristic sensitiveness and diverse, heartfelt meanings. Gabriela Marie Milton proves to be an impressive, very intelligent, sensitive, and perceptive writer and without her, this book wouldnโ€™t be what it is now: a beautiful, creative and unique book.

Thank you for reading and enjoy the rest of your day!

A Wednesday Poem by Gabriela Marie Milton & Congratulations to all Nominees & Winners at Spillwords 2025

photo of clouds during dawn

Happy Wednesday my dear followers! A poem for today.

The sky opens. The child continues to sleep, the moon tightly squeezed between his little fingers. In the #bathtub roses, and the aroma of sandalwood invert their positions. I took too many sleeping pills.

I fell into the exaltation of my own double. Grabbed by the claws of a bird the loneliness spams. A conch shell releases your voice. Stars and sea salt. My last I love you.

Congratulations to everyone who came on top at Spillwords this year! Click on the picture to see the nominees and the winners.

A Poem From Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings – One of my #1 Amazon Bestseller Poetry Books

I am the one

I am the voice of your past loves
resounding in your wildest fantasies
dressed in roses at the altar of your dreams
I am the one youโ€™ve never had
my soul flows from the tears of the Nile
from the hands of children who still beg
through ruins, darkness, and deep pain
through wars which they will never understand
I am the last who will be saved
for I have sinned under the shadow of His cross
when Spanish fountains cry in the sunset
I am the Desdemona who youโ€™ve never met
today Granadaโ€™s just the place
in which Garcรญa Lorca once was killed
I am the feather of a gold macaw bird
and in the city where bells toll
I am the one whose cries youโ€™ve never heard

A poem from my book Woman: Splendor and Sorrow

A nude silence wraps around my lips. The hour to get drunk on love has come.
I touch your skin and another you is born.
Birds invade the sky.
A labyrinth of candles floods the streets.
A white thread ties my blood vessels at the exact moment
when a religious procession walks by.

Loveโ€ฆ

Thank you. Have a beautiful weekend.

My dear followers, for you a reading from Cindy Georgakas’ book Celebrating Poetry

My dear followers,

For you a reading from Cindy Georgakas’ book Celebrating Poetry. The poem is entitled There is no distance between hearts that love. I read only an excerpt.

So many miles away, I feel your pain and despair. Your country is suffering, and I am suffering with you because you are my friends. I may have never met you; but I know your heart.

I know your stories, I know your desires, I know your struggles, I know your purpose, I know your families, I know your work, your trials and tribulations, your ultimate highs and lows, your dreams and vision for a better tomorrow…

Cindy Georgakas

For you too I discounted the book. The eBook is now $2.99 and the paperback $9.99.

You can get it Here

Have a marvelous week.

Destinies by Gabriela Marie Milton

Happy December my dear readers! May your month be filled with joy!

A short poetic prose and a reminder

Destinies

Our destinies caught in the deep lines of my left palm.

With my right index finger, I trace those lines again and again, until I cannot breathe anymore, until my left palm bleeds.

None of us can be judged outside endless flights between continents, outside of our tears and of our love for art, outside of the slippery slope that runs from amitiรฉ amoureuse to deep impassioned love.

One day all of us will have to understand that the past should stay in the past. That day is inscribed in my left palm together with our pain, and our tendencies toward the kind of love that transcends any earthly boundaries.

Please do nor forget that Literary Revelations recently published Celebrating Poetry by Cindy Georgakas. The book was a Top Release in American Poetry and Inspirational Poetry.

Thanksgiving wishes, a poem, and more on Celebrating Poetry by Cindy Georgakas

My dear readers,

To those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving I wish you a beautiful week ahead and Happy Thanksgiving! To those who do not celebrate a century of love from me and my publishing house Literary Revelations.

First, I want to share with you a poem included in my book Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings. I hope you enjoy it.

SEDUCTION

the rhythm of castanets awakens the moon
on opal rings your kisses spin
a cricketโ€™s hitting a crescendo
waves tattoo dark shadows on your skin
sonority, you who vibrates the souls
of those who haunt at night the Port of Cartagena

I toss in smells of apricots and plumes
the Hand of Fatima takes off my veils
your forehead sinks into the sweat of lovers
who sever their veins
oh, dream of the unknowns,
you, latency,
the sigh of blood which flows

in spring both mud and flowers grow didnโ€™t you know
that when you said I love you
you stepped on roads of fables and folk tales?
you glued your heart onto a purple sunset
smells of lilac and of roses, impregnated strolls,
seduction,
it wasnโ€™t me
it was you who stole his soul

CELEBRATING POETRY BY CINDY GEORGAKAS

Second, I would like to remind you that Literary Revelations just published Celebrating Poetry by Cindy Georgakas. It’s a wonderful book and I would like you – if you can – to continue to buy it.

Yesterday Cindy was still #1 in Inspirational and Religious poetry. Congratulations from the bottom of my heart to Cindy. However, there were many problems with Amazon apps that showed the eBook unavailable in the US market. At this point things were fixed but just in case if you cannot buy the eBook via the app, please open your browser, paste the link below, and sign in your Amazon Account. That way you certainly can buy.

Yesterday:

Last night we lost the banner to a haiku book that Amazon stacked in front of us. The haiku book does not have any category remotely close to Religious & Inspirational Poetry. I have spoken to Amazon and I trust that the problem will be corrected.

Have a beautiful weekend everyone!

Marching on a Mission by Cindy Georgakas

Eyes on the prize,
there will be detours, I’m not going to lie. Keep your focus, just for today,
do what you say you will.
Strengthen that muscle,
for there is an end in sight.
Remember to celebrate when you arrive, because, as soon as you do,
there are going to be others. Donโ€™t let the falls take you under,
pick yourself up from off the ground. You made it!
Youโ€™ve arrived!
Donโ€™t forget to say,
โ€œthank you; I survived!โ€

Thank you for listening and reading!

Listen to Your Messages by Cindy Georgakas

Itโ€™s wise to use your mind and think,
pull out your map or compass when youโ€™re lost
and avoid danger when you know itโ€™s imminent.

But wiser to listen to your internal clock and messages |
that never steer you wrong.
Say YES, when itโ€™s crystal clear,

No when it isnโ€™t and youโ€™re on the fence.
Walk away from things that donโ€™t feel right and
towards yourself and cut your losses.

Let go of worry, self-doubt,
fear of failure, fear of success,
which are human given constraints.

Life continues to give you new lessons of growth and opportunities.
You will make mistakes which are often the same ones repeatedly, until you get it right.

But YOU will succeed!
So, trust your gut and envision what you want.
Go now, follow your dreams, and set fire to the wind beneath your sail.

Thank you for reading.
