Nagikei:
The Lullscapes Embracing the Resonance of Stillness
The title “Nagikei” (凪景-Lullscapes) encapsulates the profound sense of tranquility and harmony inherent in “Nagi” (Lull), blended with the nuanced appreciation for subtlety and evanescence conveyed by “Kei” (scenery or emotional landscape). This collection invites you to rediscover those serene moments and ephemeral beauties often overlooked in our daily lives.
My choice of monochrome expression stems from a profound belief: the interplay of light and shadow, with its intricate gradations, can most authentically articulate silence and its profound depths. This minimalist yet dignified approach accentuates the delicate textures, structures, and tonal variations brought forth by chiaroscuro. It aims to evoke the subtle “fluctuations” (yuragi) inherent in nature and the poignant sensibility of “mono no aware” – a gentle melancholy at the transience of things.
Japan, with its rich tapestry of tradition and aesthetic consciousness, serves as a timeless realm that conveys both serenity and warmth. The tranquility and natural allure permeating this land resonate deeply with the quietude and acceptance of impermanence central to Zen philosophy, offering visitors a unique space for calm introspection. It is my sincere hope that through this album, you will experience a profound resonance with these works at the crossroads of time and space.
The emotions embedded within the theme of “Nagikei” are inextricably linked to, and deeply resonate with, the consciousness of a “sustainable future.” In an increasingly digital world, we often lose sight of the “transcendent synchronicity” that these moments reveal. Furthermore, the inherent human capacity to perceive the “1/f fluctuation” waves present in nature and to embrace “mono no aware,” transcending eras and cultures, I believe, reawakens our fundamental aesthetic sensibilities.
This is not a return to origins, but rather a quest to rediscover the unique stillness and momentary beauty often overlooked in our contemporary digitized environments. I believe this endeavor is a meaningful pursuit for enriching our inner lives as we navigate towards a future society. It is my earnest wish that these works, which focus on “being” and “feeling” within stillness and simplicity, will offer viewers profound introspection and healing, serving as a catalyst for re- evaluating their environment and way of life.
Should you find yourself sharing in this world of “Nagi”—a space for experiencing the quietude of the heart and an instinctive appreciation for “essential beauty”—it would be my utmost fulfillment.

BIOGRAPHY
Naoki Kimura, a fine art photographer and poet, was born in the historic weaving district of Nishijin in Kyoto. In this enclave, centuries-old threads of tradition and artistry are intricately intertwined. Kimura’s work is shaped by the subtle grandeur of Japan’s ancient heart. This cradle of craftsmanship, with its iridescent silks and quiet temples, instilled in him an early reverence for the grace found in both everyday moments and the painstaking work of artisans.
In 1987, driven by a yearning for broader horizons, Kimura embarked on a pilgrimage to the United States. By 1990, the creative current of New York had claimed him. New York became both an anchor and a launching point, enabling him to traverse Europe’s storied landscapes. Naoki Kimura’s first album, NAGI, emerged as a radiant homage to the Renaissance that once swept across the heart of Europe.
Yet, despite the lure of the world, there remained an inexorable pull toward home. In 2017, with the wisdom of years and an increasingly profound artistic vision, he turned his gaze back to Japan, establishing Tokyo as his creative hub. Here, amid the contrasting rhythms of ancient temples and neon-lit avenues, he embarked on a new chapter—a return not only to his country of birth but to purpose.
At the core of his photographic meditation lies an exploration of mono no aware—the tender awareness of impermanence and the gentle sorrow that accompanies it. Through his unique sensibility, Kimura distills this concept into what he calls ‘Nagi’: a profound, resonant calm. It is a stillness that is not emptiness but fullness—an echo of all that once was and might yet be. Each photograph, whether of a fleeting shadow on stone or the hush before a storm, seeks to capture the tremor that arises when moment and place converge—a fleeting qualia, the ineffable felt quality of existence itself.
His art is, in essence, the patient recording of these thresholds: the pause where time lingers, suspended in the interplay of light and shadow. The ears of the corn will grow in silence,

Falling to your knees

The supplication prayers
Of those you’ve never met

Unknowing who I am,
The goddess’s veil will fall—
Revealing all that once was hidden,

I urge you to pause for a moment and soak in the exhilarating news that Literary Revelations Publishing House is on the verge of unveiling a breathtaking fine-art photography and poetry album by the incredibly talented Japanese artist Naoki Kimura. This exquisite album, titled LULLASCAPES IN LIGHT AND SHADOW, is destined to become a treasured collector’s gem. Currently, the artist’s solo exhibition is captivating audiences at the Hilton Tokyo Hotel, showcasing many of the stunning works that will grace our album. Stay tuned, for this is just the beginning of the artistic journey that awaits!

Naoki Kimura sent me a photo from 神嘗祭 (Kannamesai) at Ise Grand Shrine, a harvest festival held at the shrine. The festival is a significant event where the first fruits of the year’s harvest are offered to the deities. It’s one of the most important annual festivals in Japan, with roots tracing back to ancient times. The festival is a way to express gratitude to the gods for the bountiful harvest and to pray for continued prosperity.

I added my humble voice and wrote a poem titled Sacredness for the exceptional photo taken by Naoki Kimura.

The fire burns sacred, unseen,
Silent as unfinished steps between,
A path unknown, a whispered quest,
I search for hearts I don’t possess.

Who am I in this endless night,
A shadow cast without a light?
No pulse to claim, no beat to own,
Just echoes where a soul is born.

A glimpse of humbleness
A quiet bow,
A softened breath
Of the unknown

The fragrance of new rice, pure and sweet,
I kneel where earth and heavens meet,
My soul is rising, gentle, deep—

AN EXCERPT FROM MY NOVEL IN SPANISH – GABRIELA MARIE MILTON

To my beloved followers who grace my pages with your presence, may your end of July be filled with enchantment and boundless joy.

Today, I am pleased to share a brief excerpt from a novel I wrote in Spanish. I have never published it. I aspire to do so, but I still need to revise the language and remove some scenes to make its impact even more powerful. I am still debating whether to publish in Spanish or translate it into English and publish it.

The novel does not yet have a name.

The novel is a mystery thriller. The plot is structured as an investigation upon which, as the reader gradually discovers partial truths, other layers of ambiguity are superimposed. This fact primarily results from the epistemological interdependence I maintained between the book’s characters. In the constellation of the investigation-plot, Jezebel and Lady Swartley represent the emission points of some fundamental information about the death of the Governor, and the reasons for the prohibition against citizens crossing to the other, uninhabited side of the Island, punishable by death.

Here is an excerpt in Spanish.

-Anastasia, tengo entendido que Lady Swartley le presentó a Esteban.

La muchacha sonrió. Así pues, le había tocado el turno a Esteban. Las ideas de él y las de Jezabel se parecían de algún modo, este círculo de locos, como solía decir David, tenía que cerrarse.

-No, no me lo presentó ella. Lo encontré por casualidad frente a su casa.

Jezabel estalló en risa.

-¿Y usted cree que los encuentros frente a la casa de Lady Swartley son perfectamente casuales?

-Esta vez, ella y Lady Swartley se habían pasado de la raya. Anastasia se puso nerviosa. Juró para sus adentros que no volvería a hablar nunca con ninguno de ellos, nunca. Aceptaría las invitaciones de Jezabel, no le permitirá más a Lady Swartley conversar sin sentido. David tenía razón. Estas dos estaban totalmente locas. Trató de calmar sus nervios, diciéndose que todo era un juego, nada más. En algún lugar, dentro de su ser, sabía muy bien que nada era un juego. Ahora, aquí, todo estaba contabilizado, pesado, según una lógica que se negaba constantemente a la lógica humana. No le importaba responderle a Jezabel. “Hey, lady. Want me to read your future?”
“No, thank you.”
“Ever been sick?”
“No.”
“Ever had surgery?”
“No.”
“Broken bones?”
“No.”
“They’ve tied your health.”
“What?”
“Now, they can’t touch you.”
“Who are they?”

She laughed—a strange, yellow laughter, sweet and sour.

“Let me tell you your future.”
“No, thanks.”

I quickened my pace, heart thumping.

When I reached the center of the arch, I glanced back. She was gone—vanished like a forgotten dream.

My future flickered before my eyes:
a vision in black and white, sharp as shadows, silent as stone.

It rained that day.

Attic Melancholy – poetic prose/poem by Gabriela Marie Milton

In this attic, there is no light anymore. Nothing penetrates the small windows from which we used to watch the moon’s rays playing on the chestnut leaves during our first autumn.
In darkness, I sit down and wrap a piece of a burned candle around loves which are born out of pity. How pathetic.
I hear a whisper: perhaps my old toys locked inside the old Spanish chest. They still talk among themselves, don’t they?
You were right. I’ve never been what I appeared to be: an ordinary girl walking in the streets and drinking mocktails in bars.

I used to laugh. Yet you did not drown in my laughter. You vanished inside my melancholy; inside the dead world to which I’ve always aspired. You’ve remained there forbidding my laughter for fear of not forgetting me.
Oh, that loyalty of yours amid all temptations.

The night is blessed with darkness, which makes way for light in the morning.

Anything can be said about that city, but one can never say that it lacks a distinct identity.

During the humid autumn evenings, the city looks like a wounded being, nursing her own lacerations. On the sidewalks, the smell of dust overpowers the stench of cigarettes and alcohol coming from her tiny, obscure pubs.

Clandestine rising to power, luxury cars zipping by, casinos filled with shady characters, rats zig-zagging in the basements of old buildings. Plenty of frustrations run through the city’s blood like thousands of white blood cells through the veins of an infected patient.

A sea of beggars at every street corner: amputated hands, deep lesions, wrinkled faces painted in the colors of dirt. Pain exposed in plain view like art objects in museums: the only difference being that pain is free; the entry in most museums is not.

In that city, our story began: a story in which we created and destroyed loves, trusted and betrayed friendships, invented beauty only to eradicate it at the first sign of dawn.

We tried to satisfy our egos. We ended up fulfilling the city’s need to devour us.

MATADOR

in Salamanca’s golden square,
Where ancient stones remember pain,
The crimson sun, the dust- my reign

Red is my dress , the crowd ignites—
A sea of faces, hope and dread.

The bull, a shadow forged in night.

And you, my matador, in shining thread,
The cape—a flick, a whispered prayer—
Red as the roses on the grave.
The dance of death…

Now I scribble words in lonely Sundays,
Echoes of bull fights in Salamanca …
