Si ha decidido no visitarme más, porque se imagina que no quiero responderle a sus preguntas, no actúa bien. Llega un tiempo de madurez para cada uno de nosotros.Estamos aquí, o en otra parte, eso nunca le queda claro a ninguno de nosotros. Me acuerdo de cierta mañana, un año antes de que muriera el Capitán, cuando recorría sola las calles de la Ciudad. Había pasado la noche anterior atormentándome con preguntas. Los rayos del sol se deslizaban al lado, cerca de mí, y tenía la impresión de que me evitaban a propósito, como si me hubieran retirado hasta el derecho a sus caricias. Me resonaba todavía en los oídos la voz del Capitán, en la noche. ¡Te irás acostumbrando, mi amor, te irás acostumbrando! Claro, a todo nos acostumbramos. Pero no a nosotros, sino a nuestro doble que cada uno lleva dentro de sí mismo y utilizamos como un escudo, en contra de todos los males. Me había detenido en la Gran Avenida frente a una tienda de cosméticos, mirando al azar decenas de matices de creyones de labios, de cremas, rimmel. De pronto me pasaron por la mente sombras, miles de sombras, sombras de las mujeres que utilizaban cosas parecidas a las que estaba contemplando. Miro el escaparate de la tienda vecina, que pertenecía a una compañía de turismo. Fotos bonitas de varias partes del continente. Se podía obtener descuento de precios, habitaciones en los hoteles más fascinantes y una cantidad de chucherías gratuitas. Un mundo absurdo, aberrante. Fotos estupendas, en las que ninguno de nosotros nos encentraríamos alguna vez; porque la película fotográfica no puede sorprender nuestra alma. Me vino a la mente la figura del ministro del interior…..

AN EXCERPT FROM MY NOVEL IN SPANISH – GABRIELA MARIE MILTON

To my beloved followers who grace my pages with your presence, may your end of July be filled with enchantment and boundless joy.

Today, I am pleased to share a brief excerpt from a novel I wrote in Spanish. I have never published it. I aspire to do so, but I still need to revise the language and remove some scenes to make its impact even more powerful. I am still debating whether to publish in Spanish or translate it into English and publish it.

The novel does not yet have a name.

The novel is a mystery thriller. The plot is structured as an investigation upon which, as the reader gradually discovers partial truths, other layers of ambiguity are superimposed. This fact primarily results from the epistemological interdependence I maintained between the book’s characters. In the constellation of the investigation-plot, Jezebel and Lady Swartley represent the emission points of some fundamental information about the death of the Governor, and the reasons for the prohibition against citizens crossing to the other, uninhabited side of the Island, punishable by death.

Here is an excerpt in Spanish.

-Anastasia, tengo entendido que Lady Swartley le presentó a Esteban.

La muchacha sonrió. Así pues, le había tocado el turno a Esteban. Las ideas de él y las de Jezabel se parecían de algún modo, este círculo de locos, como solía decir David, tenía que cerrarse.

-No, no me lo presentó ella. Lo encontré por casualidad frente a su casa.

Jezabel estalló en risa.

-¿Y usted cree que los encuentros frente a la casa de Lady Swartley son perfectamente casuales?

-Esta vez, ella y Lady Swartley se habían pasado de la raya. Anastasia se puso nerviosa. Juró para sus adentros que no volvería a hablar nunca con ninguno de ellos, nunca. Aceptaría las invitaciones de Jezabel, no le permitirá más a Lady Swartley conversar sin sentido. David tenía razón. Estas dos estaban totalmente locas. Trató de calmar sus nervios, diciéndose que todo era un juego, nada más. En algún lugar, dentro de su ser, sabía muy bien que nada era un juego. Ahora, aquí, todo estaba contabilizado, pesado, según una lógica que se negaba constantemente a la lógica humana. No le importaba responderle a Jezabel. Lo que más le interesaba era comprender algo de su propia vida, de la vida que estaba pulsando en la Ciudad y más allá de ella.

-¿Qué nos robo a nosotros, como seres humanos, la civilización de esta Ciudad, Jezabel?
