A short poem (poetic prose) by Gabriela Marie Milton

In the rose’s tender clasp or jasmine’s whispered breath,

femininity and desire weave,

beckoning us to a passion refinedโ€”

vulnerable in its bloom,

triumphant in its essence,

resonating with the timeless spirit over fleeting flesh.

In the Beginning – Poetic Prose – Poem by Gabriela Marie Milton

I am therefore I write

Gabriela Marie Milton

In the Beginning – Poetic Prose – Poem by Gabriela Marie Milton

In the beginning, the sky was dark, swollen with braided longings. The  earth lay beneath it, clothed in smiling flowers and the slow breath of gods. Petals parted like whispered confessions, damp with promises. Desire had no name.

On that day, I bent and chose one bloom. My fingers lingered,. At the first trembling touch love burst from the ground.

The earth arched upward, aching, rising to meet the weight of the sky. Roots tightened, winds sighed, and the night thickened with roses and heavy steps. Your name became the name of desire spoken by birds.

The second day of creation started.

Gods of my many worlds, I beg your forgiveness.

A thought and some reminder

I was asked in an interview how I write “lush poetry” and “haiku”, such different poetic genres. The answer is I do not know. I just can. I leave the beauty of both genres raining over me. I became one with my writings.

Please do not forget our fabulous Artist in Residence, Hikari, and me published Haiku and Tanka: Lull, Harmony, and Power in Japanese Art.

Delight yourself in its pages.

Poetry in English and Basque & A Quick Reminder & #1 Top Seller in Canada

Gabriela Marie Milton

Wishing all my followers around the world a wonderful weekend! May magic, love, and peace be with you.

Poetry in English and Basque & A Quick Reminder.

Poetry in English and Basque

I am who I am, and who I am breathes in the hush between desire and devotion โ€” hidden in the tears that slide down the cracked face of an iconoclastโ€™s old church, glistening like skin after rain.

My essence stirs in the murmur of the waves that caress Bilbaoโ€™s restless shore. There, beneath the trembling light, I unfold โ€” a secret pulse, a body made of memory and prayers, aching to be touched by the world again.

————————

Ni naizena naiz, eta naizena arnasa hartzen du desioaren eta debozioaren arteko isilunean โ€” ikonoklasta baten eliza zaharraren aurpegi pitzatuaren gainetik behera irristatzen diren malkoetan ezkutatuta, euriaren ondoren larruazal bezain distiratsu.

Nire esentzia mugitzen da Bilboko itsasertze bizkorra laztantzen duten olatuen xuxurlan. Han, dardarka dabilen argiaren azpian, zabaltzen naiz โ€” taupada sekretu bat, oroitzapen eta otoitzaz egindako gorputz bat, munduak berriro ukitzeko gogo biziz.

Poem by Gabriela Marie Milton

Your breath forgets to move,
lingering like silk in amber,
caught between the smell of leaves and memory,
where touch burns slow against the skin and time,
heavy with wanting.

Basque Lore – Witch (Sorginak)-Short Prose – Poetic Prose by Gabriela Marie Milton

Basque Lore – Witch (Sorginak)-Short Prose – Poetic Prose by Gabriela Marie Milton

Amaia moved as if the earth itself exhaled her name. The cup before her shimmered with fern, salt, and a shard of the seaโ€™s first boneโ€”the one that once wrapped around her ankles like a lover unwilling to let go. She broke the root of a tree between her fingers, and the scent of sap rose, thick and sweet as memory.

Her dress slipped from her shoulders, pooling at her feet like dusk surrendering to night. Naked, she began to danceโ€”slowly at first, then with the rhythm of wind through stone, of rivers through veins. The air bent toward her, the mountains listening. Mist gathered around her skin, luminous and alive, her hair trailing down her thighs like spilled ink.

We were children, hidden beneath the bed, breathless. Through the slats, we saw her summon the world back to itselfโ€”one movement, one whisper, one trembling note at a time.

Sacred Autumn – short prose, poetic prose by Gabriela Marie Milton

Sacred Autumn – short prose, poetic prose by Gabriela Marie Milton

Those nights of autumnโ€”when the chill did not wound but healed, when the air itself seemed to breathe through us, cooling the fever of our restless hearts. Our eyes, heavy with the weight of constellations, closed like petals surrendering to the dusk. The city stirred beneath our footsteps, its silence trembling awake, its shadows turning to watch us pass.

Your lips traced, in the tender blindness of night, the outline of my fingers as though reading a forgotten scripture.

And in those evenings, we learned what few ever doโ€”that desire, once it transcends the body, becomes sacred. We had crossed that invisible threshold where touch dissolves into essence, and what we shared was no longer flesh, but the luminous echo of it.

Haunted – Poetic Prose by Gabriela Marie Milton

Haunted – Poetic Prose by Gabriela Marie Milton

The streets remember you, every cobblestone etched with the memory of your footsteps, as if the earth itself had been branded by your presence. It’s been three years, yet the imprint of your steps lingers, a haunting echo that refuses to fade. I recall the way we’d dance in the empty streets, lost in the mystic glow of a sunset that unraveled itself just for us. The world melted away, leaving only the soft whisper of our footsteps and the fading light.

You vanished around the corner, turning left into the fading light, and I followed, my heart racing. But when I turned the street was deserted, the silence palpable. Yet, I could still feel the resonance of your steps, the vibrations of your presence lingering in the air. The distant chime of church bells pierced the evening air, and as the darkness gathered, it felt like the very shadows were alive, swirling around me like a shroud. In that moment, I was consumed by the ache of your absence, the longing to be reunited with the ghost of our past.

A POEM BY GABRIELA MARIE MILTON AND A PHOTO BY NAOKI KIMURA

Good morning/good evening, my cherished followers:

Today:  A POEM BY GABRIELA MARIE MILTON AND A PHOTO BY NAOKI KIMURA.

I hope you enjoy:

PHOTO

Naoki Kimura

POEM/SHORT PROSE

She perched at the corner of the old archway, her floral dress blooming against the steel, her eyes the green of rain-soaked moss.

โ€œHey, lady. Want me to read your future?โ€
โ€œNo, thank you.โ€
โ€œEver been sick?โ€
โ€œNo.โ€
โ€œEver had surgery?โ€
โ€œNo.โ€
โ€œBroken bones?โ€
โ€œNo.โ€
โ€œTheyโ€™ve tied your health.โ€
โ€œWhat?โ€
โ€œNow, they canโ€™t touch you.โ€
โ€œWho are they?โ€

She laughedโ€”a strange, yellow laughter, sweet and sour.

โ€œLet me tell you your future.โ€
โ€œNo, thanks.โ€

I quickened my pace, heart thumping.

When I reached the center of the arch, I glanced back. She was goneโ€”vanished like a forgotten dream.

My future flickered before my eyes:
a vision in black and white, sharp as shadows, silent as stone.

It rained that day.

Attic Melancholy – poetic prose/poem by Gabriela Marie Milton

In this attic, there is no light anymore. Nothing penetrates the small windows from which we used to watch the moonโ€™s rays playing on the chestnut leaves during our first autumn.
In darkness, I sit down and wrap a piece of a burned candle around loves which are born out of pity. How pathetic.
I hear a whisper: perhaps my old toys locked inside the old Spanish chest.  They still talk among themselves, donโ€™t they?
You were right. Iโ€™ve never been what I appeared to be: an ordinary girl walking in the streets and drinking mocktails in bars.

I used to laugh. Yet you did not drown in my laughter. You vanished inside my melancholy; inside the dead world to which Iโ€™ve always aspired. Youโ€™ve remained there forbidding my laughter for fear of not forgetting me.
Oh, that loyalty of yours amid all temptations.

The night is blessed with darkness, which makes way for light in the morning.

I am the night.

Nobody escapes me.

You knew it.

IDENTITY – POETIC PROSE BY GABRIELA MARIE MILTON

Anything can be said about that city, but one can never say that it lacks a distinct identity.

During the humid autumn evenings, the city looks like a wounded being, nursing her own lacerations. On the sidewalks, the smell of dust overpowers the stench of cigarettes and alcohol coming from her tiny, obscure pubs.

Clandestine rising to power, luxury cars zipping by, casinos filled with shady characters, rats zig-zagging in the basements of old buildings. Plenty of frustrations run through the cityโ€™s blood like thousands of white blood cells through the veins of an infected patient.

A sea of beggars at every street corner: amputated hands, deep lesions, wrinkled faces painted in the colors of dirt. Pain exposed in plain view like art objects in museums: the only difference being that pain is free; the entry in most museums is not.

In that city, our story began: a story in which we created and destroyed loves, trusted and betrayed friendships, invented beauty only to eradicate it at the first sign of dawn.

We tried to satisfy our egos.  We ended up fulfilling the cityโ€™s need to devour us.
