Yesterday, August 9, 2021, my poetry collection Woman: Splendor and Sorrow was #1 in Amazon Hot New Releases, Poetry Subjects and Themes. Yesterday, I became a bestselling author.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have no words to tell you how humbled I am by your support, and by that of my followers from other social media outlets. Special thanks to my WP friends who are going through challenging times, and yet they still find ways to support and encourage me.

Equally, special thanks to my family, and to that wonderful person in my life who is a renowned and accomplished academic and author in his own right, and who he is now the “wind beneath my wings.”

My Dear Readers,  

Do not listen to any detractors. There will be people who will envy you. There will be people who will denigrate your work, and you personally. There will be people who will want to drag you down. Do not listen to them. Keep going. Keep shining. Keep writing. If I can do it you can do it too. I will support each one of you as much as I can.

Poetry Contest

To honor the community who have supported my writing journey and my work I plan to have a poetry contest in September.  I will ask you to write one poem inspired by a piece from my book Woman: Splendor and Sorrow and to list the name of the piece that inspired your submission. There will be prizes.  More info about the contest coming up in September.

        In terms of my first poetry book, I don’t quite feel that it makes much sense to publish a book (particularly of poems) without some sort of following. Producing a book that never gets sold would not be very fulfilling for me 🙂

        David, you are extremely talented. You have plenty of followers. Many will help you as much as they can. You don’t write under a pen name. You have a community home that can help you too. You have everything going for you. And you have another anniversary coming up next year.
        This is my opinion. Of course, you do what you want. If you are not ready now, one day you will be.

      3. Gabriela, first of all, you & I are much more than alright – I took your comment seriously (and as a serious compliment), and it’s something that I had to think about how to answer because of the subject.

        Secondly, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t have suggested it. As I said above, I consider it a compliment – so thank you.

        I just feel… super skeptical about the whole thing. In today’s world, it’s all about promoting one’s self – even more so than the quality of one’s art. It’s about book tours, agents, etc…. I just… it feels to me (perhaps entirely irrationally) that any book I produce would simply end up in the infinite graveyard of unread books – almost nobody would ever know it exists, other than a few dozen individuals… and that would really make me sad.

        So, to a large extent, I feel like I need to work further on developing a name for myself – beyond my blog (which I have not done at all yet) before producing something that others would seriously consider spending money on.

        I suppose it’s all a cop-out… and/or my perfectionism being the enemy of what’s good for me…

      1. I’m in Bg, hon, with mom. She’s ok now so they are resuming therapy, which is good. Pretty busy as sis is on vacation now, helping mom with meds, appointments, grocery shopping. I enjoy just being with her.
