A short poem and a new review of Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings # micropoem #review #poetry collection

My Dear Readers,

Below please find one of my new poems entitled Yellow, and a new review of my poetry collection Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings. The laudatory content and the language used by the reviewer – whom I do not know – made a big impression on me.

Yellow

A red sky sews our hearts together.
The moon threads the needle.
She pricks her finger.
A yellow tear falls on my cheek.

Review

[In Passions] each poem unfolds different scenery with its very own landscape and emotions. It offers a full repertoire of sensations to explore with all the human senses. The reader will be able to smell, touch, see, taste, and hear everything that the poem narrates, transforming the reading into a unique experience. “Those roses which die in the winter/played the piano last night/a whirlpool of notes and of poems/inscribed on a wall painted in blue” (p.26) Reading these lines, it feels as if you were immersed on them, surrounded by those roses and the whirlpool of notes and poems. Closer to the end of the book you have the Prose Poems and Flash Fiction. These are short stories written in poetic prose, which is a hybrid genre of writing that mixes the attributes and structures of both prose and poetry, meaning you can find short stories divided into brief paragraphs or separated into lines on the page, which is the process known as lineation, used when writing poetry. The stories narrated in these sections address issues like the strength of character, loneliness, obsession, love, family, and every little thing that comes with human relationships. It is exceptionally and beautifully written and it completely captivates the reader and makes him feel the same way the poet does….

The writer of this book uses symbolism, alliteration, and other figures of speech such as metaphor, metonymy or simile brilliantly and intellectually. She creates a complex yet excellent layering of meanings, forming connections between the verses that were not previously perceived, and it also establishes a resonance or even similarity between images that may seem disparate when you first read them. It is a wonderful book to read if you are interested in a kind of poetry with universal meaning and value….

My Book, Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings, featured in San Francisco Book Review #book review

We desperately want to love, to possess each other, caught in a perpetual rush to justify our existence.
Yet there is no love that can fully satisfy us. The passions of the flesh get exhausted in bed. What is left is exhausted by our imagination.

Excerpt from my book Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings [on Amazon here].

My Dear Friends,
Thank you to everyone who reads my work. Your support means the world to me.  Below please find the review of my book, Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings, in San Francisco Book Review.

The series transports us on a journey of love as much as it delivers us a thematically diverse set of emotions. This is a superb collection.”

dark love #poem #poetry collection #review

green, you smell with your tongue
your thoughts pollinate mine
your fingers endanger the sailors
a water which opens its lips and drinks them
ah, hour of man
when did you become the hour of horrors?
a book cover reads: Dictionary of Superstitions
I see the girl who tears out the heart of the pigeon
white feathers and blood spasm under the moon
the man she loves will marry her
in the street of the tall Cyprus trees and small mandarins
we meet
you give me a pigeon blood ruby
superstition,
I think of dying
dying without you knowing me
I touch with my cheeks the walls that you touched
adrenalized you think of me
your skin calls my name

love
dark love
with pins in his heart the pigeon still flies

a night poem and a thank you #poetry

my love
my tears wed the earth
the night is naked, and it’s drunk
it dances around roses
with lips which taste old wine
he who wins the night wins me
the many games of life
birds whose flight has stopped
sedated
the night’s a carousel
which turns inside my heart

“Reading your poetry is an inquisitive journey
Its richness and mystery evoke my intrinsic curiosity
Once I open the wondrous door to your art
I am completely absorbed in the marvel of your words”

Sahara #poem #poetry #poetry collection

The water bucket was brought by a woman.
She left.
Her child needed to be fed.
Sands.
The time comes from nowhere and goes nowhere.
Between my thirst and this bucket of water,
Between the consciousness of man and that of the stars,
Matter passes from blue to gold.
Sahara
Tonight
Your love gives way to his.

My poem “in this pink summer of Jaipur” published by Indian Periodical, and a new review of my book Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings

little-2192347_1920

in this pink summer of Jaipur
dressed in silk and in monsoonal dances
choked by smoke
forgotten by lovers
the nuances in which you speak my name sound hollow
and the little girl

who has only a grain of rice

Thank you again to everyone who bought my book, Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings, available on Amazon here.  The book has been a bestseller under Poetry About Love for quite a while including yesterday and the day before yesterday.

The following is another review, one among many, done on an online book club by another reviewer whom I do not know.

Excerpt:

This is a mesmerizing collections of poems, ranging from love poems and writings in form of prose poems. This book brings back old memories, it re-ignites the long gone fire of love within the reader. It has an amazing effect on the reader as one reads the poems, one by one….With an excellent lovely language and lavish imagination, Gabriela ignites a fantastic mind full of emotions….I rate this book 4 out 4 stars. It makes me want to write poems. It is an inspiration, an entertainment and a lively way of educating and reigniting your fire of love. I quote a line in one of the poems,” we desperately want to love, to possess each other, caught in a perpetual rush to justify our existence.” It really makes sense and will make sense till the end of time...”

Inspiring reviewers, people who I do not know, and people who I know, is an honor.

Passions: a New Poem Entitled Son of the Desert, and a Thank You #poetry #book collection

Son of the Desert

oh, let the summer come and go
wrapped into my dreams
coiling on your pillow
son of the desert
you look like the founder of gods
eyes hunt the cracks of pyramids
sands nest in your folded lips
under your sight
my breasts blossom
voices of the children of the moon
cupped palms filled with tears
son of the desert
tonight
I play my notes
close to your skin

On Love

I must rebuild your love in my brain.
My soul bears the marks of castles lost at sea.

My Dear Readers,

It transfers human feelings to a realm of wonders. Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings is a book of art written by Gabriela Marie Milton…. I was wowed by the poems. My poem The Last Love up at Vita Brevis Poetry Magazine and a Note to My Readers #poetry #published

Dear all,

My poem The Last Love published by Vita Brevis Poetry Magazine:

I eat macaroons in the same coffee shop
Roberto’s guitar sells cheap dreams by the sea
young girls are ready for harvest like flowers of lust
I laugh…
I scratch poetry on a glass
I say the first love is French
you ask how’s the last
it smells raspberries, vanilla, and grass
you touch…

On a different note, I apologize to all my followers for not reading your posts over the past two days. I promise I will do my best to catch up with everyone’s posts as soon as I can.

Work and painful experiences got in the way. As a professor the end of the academic year has always been a humbling and joyous experience. Generally, it takes 2 years to get a Masters’ degree.  After that it takes anywhere between 4-6 years (even longer in some cases) to earn a doctoral degree.

During graduation shaking the hands of my students, looking them in the eyes, and telling them: Congratulations Dr… it was a privilege to have you as my student. It meant the world to me. I did my best to equip you with knowledge and to teach you how to think critically. I encouraged you all along to challenge my thinking.  Now, you are ready. Go out in the world and create new knowledge: knowledge that we all can benefit from. Now, that you are at the same level with me I hope you will do better than I do.  With all my heart I wish you good luck and may your star be the brightest. Each and every one of your victories will speak to me. Each and every one of your victories will prove that you are great and that not even a minute from my countless hours of work during long afternoons and sleepless nights was wasted.  Congratulation Dr…Go for it!

This year none of this will happen in person. My regalia will not leave the closet. It will be a painful experience for me and for my students.

Love to everyone
Gabriela

Now, for you my dear readers my new poem Why?

The hypnotic red of the flower pots molded in blood.
Dissimulation of an afternoon sacrifice.
An excruciating sunset crosses its fingers.
I tempt fate.
I see the child.
Toys forgotten in the sands.
A yellow like the aroma of the corn on the cob.
The sky dies in the convulsions of your “whys.”
Why?
