caged #poetry #poem

it rained in Nicaragua
last night
inside a cage with fraying ties
a little girl
sat barefoot on the ground
and while you wrote
your poetry in Florence
her tears were flowing
from my eyes

    1. Thank you so much for your words! What a beautiful poem you wrote! To your site to read it again.

    1. Ah… thank you so much to my marvelous poetess whose verses enchant so many! Much love to you my dear Y!

  1. So much meaning in so few lines! One of the best poems I’ve read, I think. The ending is especially biting. The lines “and while you wrote / your poetry in Florence” come across as a strong accusation against those (us) who stay safe and happy while someone else suffers like this, and that accusation is especially poignant since the speaker seems to be the girl in the cage. So thought provoking.

    1. Dear David, thank you for your extremely generous comment! Your interpretation of my poem is very perceptive. I am very grateful to you for taking the time to read and comment.
