rien que pour toi #literature #fiction #short prose

Between the bed and the window, in that space that smells roses and rien que pour toi, the morning let’s her hair down. She is so close that I can reach her skin with the tip of my fingers.

I know, his book and the fame it brought him. The book in which he made me — the me that he imagined — the main character.

He was fascinated by the purple of my makeup and the yellows of my cobra who used to erect the upper portion of her body to greet him every time he visited.

I do not know what demons he tried to exorcise. In the heat of those summer afternoons, he used to sip his sangria and attempt to find almost religious justifications for what he called my ecstatic existence; an existence populated with the richness and succulence of the Mediterranean literature and void of bullet points.

His acute shyness and his need to overcome the incapacity to love beyond nightly adventures used to ring in my ears like some unhinged marimba lamenting the loss of a pipe.

The dress that I wear in page twenty-seven. That dress and the heart-shaped red stone pierced with a hole for suspension I used to wrap around my neck. I found that stone in a church yard. I was too young. Perhaps an older version of me would have made him a better writer. Do not laugh. You are too handsome when you laugh.

In the end he managed to do something special. He invented the name of a perfume and made me wear it in every page of his book: rien que pour toi.

I hid his book somewhere in the library.
Yet, every morning, in the space between the bed and the window, it still smells rien que pour toi.

If only.. Autumn #poem #prose poem #short prose

If only I could put my palm into yours for one single sunset

when the autumn’s fingers smell corn silk,

and the eyelids of the sea cast spells on the cheeks of the stars.

Bathe with me at the end of the shore

where milk foam washes the feet of the children

and leaves traces of white shivers.

A pink conch tolls the waves announcing the homecoming of the chrysanthemums.

The pain of birth leaks prayers on your lips

like half naked Sundays leak monotony and coolness

on the yellow walls of the old city.

From the other side of your naked eyes,

I gather your tears in a wicker basket.

Laurel leaves hide under your pillow.

If only…

Autumn…

The Violin of Love #poem #poetry #prose poem

The air is still like the minutes before confession.
The cloak shrouds me.
On the second breath of the Easter of Roses I walk to the outskirts of your love.
A violin exults fires upon darkness.
In one single stoke your passion consumes and shuns me.
The chambers of my heart resound.
Reds prevent you from understanding how much I love you.
Double stop.
Movements.
My eyes are the eyes of the Sphinx
I wait.

My Book, Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings, featured in San Francisco Book Review #book review

We desperately want to love, to possess each other, caught in a perpetual rush to justify our existence.
Yet there is no love that can fully satisfy us. The passions of the flesh get exhausted in bed. What is left is exhausted by our imagination.

My Dear Friends,
Thank you to everyone who reads my work. Your support means the world to me.  Below please find the review of my book, Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings, in San Francisco Book Review.

The series transports us on a journey of love as much as it delivers us a thematically diverse set of emotions. This is a superb collection.”

a night poem and a thank you #poetry

my love
my tears wed the earth
the night is naked, and it’s drunk
it dances around roses
with lips which taste old wine
he who wins the night wins me
the many games of life
birds whose flight has stopped
sedated
the night’s a carousel
which turns inside my heart

and…
my deepest thanks to Cassa – a wonderful poetess – who wrote beautiful words about my book Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings. Here is a snippet from Cassa’s post:

“Reading your poetry is an inquisitive journey
Its richness and mystery evoke my intrinsic curiosity
Once I open the wondrous door to your art
I am completely absorbed in the marvel of your words”

Sahara #poem #poetry #poetry collection

The water bucket was brought by a woman.
She left.
Her child needed to be fed.
Sands.
The time comes from nowhere and goes nowhere.
Between my thirst and this bucket of water,
Between the consciousness of man and that of the stars,
Matter passes from blue to gold.
Sahara
Tonight
Your love gives way to his.

The Second Waltz-Poem #Poetry #Poetry Book

at 8 am you boil flowery teas
the kitchen smells blueberries
and it smells cinnamon
the French silk stockings are the perfect gift
wonders of the magic lamp
last night
our passion lit
twelve wicks

you say good morning
and I say not now
your eyes are thirsty like a drying well
you say I love you
and I say please wait
your kisses fall under the bracelets from my wrist
my heart is beating in your chest
I have to go
you want to talk to me?
perhaps another day
you know, another day will bring another night
why don’t you write to me?
will I come back?

my love,
in front of all these icons that you brought for me in Crete
I swear I’ll die again with you
inside the beauty of the second waltz
where we discovered our innocence
one chord per bar

Passions: a New Poem Entitled Son of the Desert, and a Thank You #poetry #book collection

Son of the Desert

oh, let the summer come and go
wrapped into my dreams
coiling on your pillow
son of the desert
you look like the founder of gods
eyes hunt the cracks of pyramids
sands nest in your folded lips
under your sight
my breasts blossom
voices of the children of the moon
cupped palms filled with tears
son of the desert
tonight
I play my notes
close to your skin

On a different note, Timothy is very generous. I was gifted a tree on Timothy’s property along side the Rio Grande. Actually there are several women on WP who have trees on Timothy’s propriety. I am just one of them.

Here is an excerpt from Timothy’s review. You can read the entire review on Amazon.

Thank you.
