JEZEBELโ€™S ISLAND: A Psychological and Mystery Thriller, NOTES

The Map -The Architects and the Wandering: A Guide to the Islandโ€™s Shadows

Note: In the geography of this mystery, there is no true starting line. Remember, the beginning is the end.

  • The City: Occupying only one side of the island, the City is merciless. It is arguably the most merciless character in the storyโ€”a silent, suffocating presence that shapes all who dwell within its borders.
  • Anastasia: A young woman born in the “City.” She wanders through mystery after mystery, mirror after mirror, ripping veil after veil only to discover new mysteries until she finally understands her destiny.
  • Jezebel: The visionary architect of fate, a fabulous characterโ€”an almost mythical figure whose true intentions are found to be as layered and shifting as the island itself. Rising from the ashes, she leaves us to wonder: Will she make them bloom?
  • The Captain: A figure whose influence persists long after his demise. Though dead, his cruel legacy remains an immovable weight. Will anyone be able to transcend it?
  • Lady Swartley: An embodiment of the islandโ€™s elite influence and traditionโ€”or so many think. But she is much more. Find out.
  • David: The inheritor. His real thoughts, not just his actions, will mislead you at first. Pay close attention to what remains unsaidโ€”and what he does in the end.
  • Esteban: Enigmatic and elusive. Try to understand his roleโ€”this is the challenge every reader must face in the literature of the enigma.
  • Armando: A servant whose presence masks a much deeper, hidden complexity. But is he a servant only?
  • Gabriela Marie Milton: The author. She built this island, woven these veils, and laid these mirrors. She knows the way outโ€”but will she guide you, or will she leave you to wander?

A Note on the Atmosphere of Jezebelโ€™s Island

As you prepare to embark on the journey within Jezebelโ€™s Island, I want to offer a brief guide on how to approach the narrative.

Reading this novel is less about following a linear path and more about surrendering to an experience. You will likely feel as though you are wandering through a fever dream alongside Anastasia. The narrative is intentionally disjointed, designed to mirror the instability of a world where reality is constantly filtered through the haze of dreams, fragmented memories, and persistent rumors.

To fully immerse yourself in this psychological landscape, I encourage you to set aside the search for traditional cause-and-effect transitions. Instead, allow yourself to be drawn into the thematic atmosphere. Pay close attention to the recurring motifsโ€”the imposing presence of the mountains, the haunting reflection of the mirror, and the encroaching silence of the “void.”

These are not merely background elements; they are the anchors of the story. If you embrace this visceral, psychological engagement, you will find that the storyโ€™s true meaning lies not in the “what happens next,” but in the haunting resonance of the world itself.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts as you navigate the island.

Excerpt

What’s wrong with us devouring each other? God gave up the fight, and God says that the mightier should crush the weaker. On the table was a pineapple, and a knife was stuck in it. The pendulum chimed. It was 6:30 am. The Captain turned his back to me, rummaging in the box with cigars. He took them one by one, sniffing them. I tried to look away from the knife, but I couldn’t. In seconds, I lived through dozens of possible futures. I could have picked up the knife; I could have waited for him to turn around… I saw him already full of blood, from head to toe, slumped on the marble floor, dying… Twisted on the floor, the white floor full of blood… in that vision, it seemed to me that he was muttering: the mightiest must crush the weakest. It seemed to me that his gasp had already transformed into the laughter so familiar to me, into that sarcastic laughter. The mightier must crush the weaker. The mightier must crush the weaker. It is what God wants… Twisted in his own blood, he would not shut up. I couldn’t stand that image any longer… I took the knife. He was still on his back, savoring the smell of cigars.

Mock Cover

The Beginning Is the End: Jezebelโ€™s Island. Jezebel’s Island: A Psychological and Mystery Thriller

Wishing everyone a glorious week ahead.
I have been asked to explain what Jezebel’s Island: A Psychological and Mystery Thriller is about. Below, please find my description and several cover concepts. Please vote for the cover you like.

The Beginning Is the End: Jezebelโ€™s Island

In an era of fleeting digital ephemera, my latest work, Jezebelโ€™s Island, arrives as a deliberate act of literary preservation. It is a descent into a dark landscape where the atmosphere is thick with the scent of saltwater and ancient, unatoned transgressions.

The island is a study in brutal duality, a fractured terrain defined by two distinct poles from which information is incessantly transmitted: the elusive, enigmatic presence of Jezebel and the formidable Lady Swartley, whose reach is as absolute as it is chilling. These two figures operate like a duo in a dark noir fairytale, their influence seconded by a pair of men, David and Esteban, whose own shadowed secrets add new, impenetrable veils of mystery to the narrative. Caught in this harrowing transmission is Anastasia, the receptorโ€”a young woman whose internal architecture begins to crack under the weight of the signals she receives, eventually transforming her into a living mirror of the islandโ€™s catastrophic history.

Across the islandโ€™s divide, in the landscapeโ€™s hidden places, with flowers and purposely placed images of elegant rooms, sins were committed in the name of power. These are not merely historical echoes, but active, haunting remnants that define the islandโ€™s very soul. Here, I have woven a vein of dark, serrated humor into the psychological dread, a necessary irony that illuminates the absurdity of the characters’ entrapment. It is within these suffocating, labyrinthine halls of manipulation that Anastasia finds herself slowly undone, forced to navigate the blurred, treacherous lines between her own identity and the pervasive toxicity of a place that thrives on the corruption of the spirit.

This is not a novel constructed as a linear progression in which a perpetrator moves from point A to point B and is discovered at point C. It is a non-linear haunting; a circle of obsidian cinematic clues. In this narrative, the beginning is the end. I have navigated these psychological depths with lush language at times and with sparse language at others, refusing to offer easy answers in a space where the boundaries between memory, reality, and illusions are as shifting as the tides. For the reader who seeks to confront the sophisticated, the haunting, and the enduring, Jezebelโ€™s Island is a profound, atmospheric meditation on the devastating cost of the choices we make when we are forced to bear witness to the abyss.

A short excerpt from Jezebel’s Island

“The clinical silhouette of the Interior Minister surfaced in my memory: tall, skeletal, with a tuft of chin hair of an ambiguous, shifting color. He had traveled extensively through every sovereign territory of the Continent, yet he returned from each tour proudly declaring to the ministries how uniquely fortunate he was to reside on the Island. The man was not a complete fool, but he lacked the smallest, microscopic spark of comprehension for any world outside his own programming. He would perpetually remark to the Captain: ‘How incredibly lucky we are to possess the legal right to happiness here.

Jezebel’s Island: A Mystery Thriller by Gabriela Marie Milton coming soon at Literary Revelations – Excerpt 5

My dear subscribers and followers,

Here is another excerpt from my upcoming novel: Jezebel’s Island: A Mystery Thriller coming late June/early July at Literary Revelations.

Anastasia picked up her courses with indescribable slowness. Her head ached, and the light movements of the palm tress she had followed all afternoon through the windows of the amphitheater had made her nervous. Now the night birds, attracted by the light, crashed dazedly against the glass panes of the halls. They resembled airplanes over which pilots had lost all control, gliding over the mountains.

She found David in a bar near his apartment.

-Have you seen the newspapers?

Anastasia looked at him, smiling without quite knowing why.

-No.

-They eliminated the death penalty.

Anastasia wondered what she cared about all this. David took a seat in the chair across from her, tossing a stack of newspapers on the table.

-Listen to the Government Communiquรฉ.

David leafed through one of the newspapers and began to read. It was a terse announcement, as if the government had reported the launching of a new ship into the water, something quite common on the Island. The death penalty was replaced by imprisonment, the duration of which depended on the seriousness of the act committed. David looked at her.

-What do you think?

-They will need new prisons. Let’s see where they will get the money to build them.

-Anastasia, please!

-I don’t know, David, believe me. I never thought of this.

Anastasia remembered Jezebel again dressed in that beautiful purple silk dress. She felt Armando’s glance. Did Armando say something? No, certainly not. Yet it seemed as though he had. Yes, he must have said something to her, to which Jezebel consented. Or perhaps not.

She began to read.

The Captain’s widow finally granted reporters a minute.

Ten minutes after the government announced the abolition of the death penalty, one of our reporters, who happened to be in the vicinity of the former governor’s house, managed to get some information from his widow. The conversation was recorded without the approval of the interlocutor. We assume full responsibility for the illegal recording of this conversation and its publication.

The reporter was there purely by chance? A doubt and frustration came over her, but she read on.

R. Madam, what was your reaction to the Captain’s announcement of the introduction of the death penalty?

J. I never meddled in their governance affairs.

R. Okay, but you must have had some reaction.

J. My husband acted as he saw fit.

R. Madam, please, the former Governor’s decision constituted an attack on our freedoms.

J. Do you consider that a proven criminal can be guaranteed his freedoms?

R. No, not that. But why should passing the mountains be considered a crime?

J. It was already considered as such upon my husband’s assumption of power.

R. Of course. But it was not punished so severely. The death penalty constituted the total severance of ties with the other side of the Island.

J. And the 20 years of incarceration now constitute the reestablishment of links with the other part of the Island?

R. No, but it is bearable.

J. Is there anything here that is truly bearable?

Gabriela Marie Milton and the Rise of Literary Revelations- feature in ArtistHighlights – A House That Defied Expectations

Good morning my dearest fallowers,

Your support through your likes and purchases fuels the very essence of Literary Revelations, and words fail to capture the depth of my gratitude for your unwavering encouragement. Thank you!

Gabriela Marie Milton and the Rise of Literary Revelations- feature in ArtistHighlights

Poet and editor Gabriela Marie Milton built Literary Revelations into a press where art, literature, and vision converge.

In literature, certain turning points are marked not by institutions or corporations, but by individuals who dare to reshape the field. For Gabriela Marie Milton, that turning point came in 2022. Already an acclaimed poet and editor, she launched Literary Revelations Publishing House, guided not by the marketโ€™s appetite for speed but by her own belief in beauty, precision, and timeless artistry.

Within just a few years, her vision transformed from an idea into a recognized publishing force, one that challenges assumptions about what independent presses can achieve.

A Poet at the Helm

Unlike many publishers who begin with business strategies, Gabriela began with lived experience. She had walked the path of an author herself, facing the highs of bestseller recognition and the challenges of navigating an increasingly crowded literary marketplace. This perspective shaped her belief that true publishing success lies in careful selection, not in volume.

Her dual role as poet and publisher gives her house a distinctive character: each book is approached as a work of art rather than a product. Christina Schwarz, author of the New York Times bestseller Drowning Ruth, captured Gabrielaโ€™s creative essence when she observed her โ€œlush language and lavish imageryโ€ that โ€œevokes a fantastic world ripe with emotion.โ€ That same ethos now informs every publication from Literary Revelations.

A House That Defied Expectations

The story of Literary Revelations is one of surprising acceleration. New presses often struggle for visibility, but Gabrielaโ€™s commitment to excellence allowed her to establish credibility almost immediately. The anthologies Petals of Haiku and Tranquility: An Anthology of Haiku not only reached bestseller status on Amazon but also received international acknowledgment, entering the Museum of Haiku Literature in Japan.

The placement of Petals of Haiku and its cover artwork in the Treasure House of the Rinsenji Temple further illustrates the extraordinary trajectory of the press. These honors reflect not only the skill of the contributing poets and artists but also Gabrielaโ€™s curatorial eye.

Crossing into Visual Arts

What distinguishes Literary Revelations is its refusal to confine itself to one form. The forthcoming art book Lullascapes in Light and Shadow by Naoki Kimura highlights this. Already exhibited at the Tokyo Hilton Hotel, the project demonstrates how the press bridges poetry, literature, and visual art.

This expansion is not diversification for its own sake. Rather, it reflects Gabrielaโ€™s conviction that all artistic mediums can illuminate one another, and that readers deserve access to the fullness of creative expression.

Literary Revelations Wins Best Publisher in the USA Award for 2025

Literary Revelations Publishing House has been recognized as the Best Publisher in the USA for 2025, a testament to its commitment to quality, innovation, and artistic vision. Under the leadership of Gabriela Marie Milton, the press has stood out for its unique blend of carefully curated works that span poetry, visual art, and thought-provoking anthologies. With a focus on craftsmanship over quantity, the press has established itself as a leader in the literary world, challenging conventional publishing norms. This prestigious award underscores the dedication to sustainability, artistic excellence, and cultural engagement that sets Literary Revelations apart in the industry.

Beyond Books: Building a Literary Community

Publishing is central to Literary Revelations, but its activities extend far beyond print. Through the Literary Revelations Journal, Gabriela and her team maintain a curated platform where poetry, short prose, interviews, and visual art come together. The inclusion of writers such as Gaetano Camillo, nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature, underscores the journalโ€™s standing in the global literary conversation.

The press also fosters community by organizing poetry festivals in collaboration with radio stations. These events emphasize the living, communal nature of literature and highlight Gabrielaโ€™s desire to keep art accessible to broad audiences.

Why It Matters

In a publishing world dominated by output and algorithms, Literary Revelations stands as a counterpoint. Its focus on artistry, careful editorial standards, and cultural engagement places it in a lineage of presses that influence not just markets but minds.

At its center is Gabriela herself, whose trajectory from author to founder exemplifies the power of vision. Her press demonstrates that publishing, at its best, is not about producing content but about shaping culture.

Looking Forward

With projects such as Lullacapes in Light and Shadow just published and in a few days reaching Amazon Bestseller status, Gabriela is broadening her pressโ€™s impact. The core principle remains: quality over quantity, resonance over immediacy. For readers, writers, and artists, Literary Revelations offers not just a catalog of works but a philosophy of creativity.

Eleusinian – Poem by Gabriela Marie Milton

My dear readers,

For you, a poem and a photo from my travel, which will continue for a few more days. Thank you for reading.

Eleusinian – Poem by Gabriela Marie Milton

Beneath the silence of the heated rocks,
Demeter harvests her lost tears,
Tonight, you will be hers, my dear,
Your body arting stones and souls

The ears of the corn will grow in silence,
Secrets of red sweetened lips
Falling to your knees
Youโ€™ll drink from my cupped palms
The supplication prayers
Of those youโ€™ve never met

Unknowing who I am,
The goddessโ€™s veil will fallโ€”
Revealing all that once was hidden,
Blooms of blushed and bluish mornings
That once were sacred
and now sleep
Inside the drunken silence
of museums

Attic Melancholy – poetic prose/poem by Gabriela Marie Milton

In this attic, there is no light anymore. Nothing penetrates the small windows from which we used to watch the moonโ€™s rays playing on the chestnut leaves during our first autumn.
In darkness, I sit down and wrap a piece of a burned candle around loves which are born out of pity. How pathetic.
I hear a whisper: perhaps my old toys locked inside the old Spanish chest.  They still talk among themselves, donโ€™t they?
You were right. Iโ€™ve never been what I appeared to be: an ordinary girl walking in the streets and drinking mocktails in bars.

I used to laugh. Yet you did not drown in my laughter. You vanished inside my melancholy; inside the dead world to which Iโ€™ve always aspired. Youโ€™ve remained there forbidding my laughter for fear of not forgetting me.
Oh, that loyalty of yours amid all temptations.

The night is blessed with darkness, which makes way for light in the morning.

I am the night.

Nobody escapes me.

You knew it.

In August, Literary Revelations is set to unveil a stunning album of fine-art photography by the acclaimed Japanese artist Naoki Kimura. Measuring a refined 8.3 inches wide by 11.7 inches tall, this collection promises to be a visual feast, printed on the finest paper that Amazon offers.

What sets Kimuraโ€™s work apart is his unparalleled mastery of monochrome photography, which exquisitely captures the mesmerizing dance of light and shadowsโ€”transforming each image into a profound experience. The artistโ€™s extraordinary photographic technique has garnered him countless awards and provided him with the opportunity to showcase his fervent dedication to beauty in art at numerous prestigious international exhibitions.

The collection also includes short prose, haiku, and tanka, written by Naoki Kimura.

This album is a collectorโ€™s piece. I hope you will enjoy it.

NY Glam: Congratulations on your new publishing house Literary Revelations. Can you share more about it?

Gabriela Marie Milton: I founded Literary Revelations for two deeply personal reasons: to honor the memory of my mother and to create a space where the tapestry of human emotionโ€”love, nature, sadness, and joyโ€”can be freely explored. At first glance, this may sound banal or overly sentimental. However, I assure you it is anything but. The reality is that countless poets struggle to have their work published simply because they do not conform to certain academic criteria or established norms in literary circles.

In many cases, talent alone is not enough; it often comes down to connections and who you know within these exclusive networks. This is precisely why I am passionate about giving a voice to extraordinary poetry that captivates the soul but may never grace the pages of traditional poetry journals. I want to showcase living poets whose work deserves recognition nowโ€”not posthumously.

As someone who writes about love myself, I understand how beautiful it is to explore the depths of the human soul. Through Literary Revelations, I aim to celebrate those voices that may otherwise go unheard and create an inclusive platform where every heartfelt expression can shine brightly. Join me on this journey as we illuminate the rich landscape of contemporary poetry together!

NY Glam: Can you tell us more about your own books and where they can be found?

Gabriela Marie Milton:  My Books Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings, and Woman: Splendor and Sorrow can be found on Amazon and other internet retailers. I have documented my feelings on paper, and I am satisfied with my books. When my publisher wrote in one of the forewords that Gabriela Marie Milton is the type of poet Robert Graves had in mind when he referred to being a poet as a condition โ€“ rather than a profession, I had tears in my eyes. It was the same when Christina Schwarz, the author of the New York Times Bestseller โ€œDrowning Ruth,โ€ wrote, โ€œWith lush language and lavish imagery, Gabriela Marie Milton. evokes a fantastic world ripe with emotion.โ€

From the reviews Iโ€™ve received, it appears that people view my poetry as lush and cosmopolitan and see me as a painter of feelings influenced by my European background and experiences.

NY Glam: Tell us a bit about the other books youโ€™ve published.

Gabriela Marie Milton: I am very active on social media. I read day after day beautiful poetry. I felt the need to publish others. I want the beautiful poetry of my followers to be featured and appreciated in a world that often overlooks raw emotion and genuine expression. Literary Revelations aims to shine brightly amid the love and struggle we all experience, providing a platform where heartfelt words can resonate with others. Literary Revelations is not just about showcasing poetry; itโ€™s about celebrating the human experience, its joys, sorrows, and everything in between. I uplift voices that deserve recognition and create a tapestry of shared humanity through poetry.

Petals of Haiku - ebook cover

NY Glam: What has been your personal key to success?

Gabriela Marie Milton: For me, the key to success lies not in the relentless pursuit of accolades but in a deeper understanding of what truly matters. When we shift our focus away from obsessing over success itself, we create space for the things that enrich our lives. Loving peopleโ€”cherishing relationships and nurturing connectionsโ€”becomes paramount. Through these bonds, we find support, inspiration, and joy.

Equally important is our appreciation for beauty and art. Creativity opens our minds and hearts, allowing us to experience life more fully. Whether through painting, music, or literature, art can profoundly elevate our spirits and inspire us in ways that mere ambition cannot.

Understanding ourselves is essential. Reflecting on who we are enables us to align our goals with our true passions and values. This self-awareness fosters authenticity in everything we do.

Lastly, hard work cannot be overlooked. Success requires dedication and effort, built on consistent action towards our dreams. By combining love for others, appreciation for beauty, self-discovery, and diligent work ethic, we unlock the true essence of successโ€”a fulfilling life rich with purpose and connection.
