We will have an answer for you around March 1. If you have any questions, please let us know. One question I want to clarify: Literary Revelations accepts traditional as well as non-traditional haiku.

Hainka – Just for you – Please do not submit Hainka, but you can try your pen after submitting to Haiku for Soulmates.

Hainka is a modern poetic form created by Pravat Kumar Padhy that merges the objective, nature-focused imagery of a 5-7-5 syllable haiku with the subjective, emotional depth of a 5-7-5-7-7 tanka. It is typically structured as a 48-syllable piece (5-7-5, 5-7-5-7-7) that uses the haiku as a pivotal, bridging image for the following tanka.

Key Aspects of Hainka:

  • Structure: Follows a 5-7-5 (haiku) and 5-7-5-7-7 (tanka) structure, totaling 48 syllables.
  • Pivot/Linking: The first part (haiku) acts as a pivot, and the second part (tanka) develops the imagery, with a necessary thematic, or sometimes, lyrical link between them.
  • Themes: Often explores nature, emotions, love, and humor.
  • Origin: Created by Pravat Kumar Padhy to fuse the two Japanese forms, notes Tanka Tuesday and All Poetry.
  • Presentation: A small, distinct gap is recommended between the haiku and the tanka for the reader to absorb the imagery.

It is an exciting form of poetry that has taken off, and it’s discussed in various outlets, such as Writer’s Digest. On ALL POETRY, the largest platform for poetry writers, HAINKA is highly appreciated. We do not yet have non-traditional forms of hainka, as we do for haiku.

Pravat Kumar Padhy: widely published and anthologized including โ€œContemporary Indian English Love Poetryโ€. Literary work referred in Spectrum History of Indian Literature in English, Alienation in Contemporary Indian English Poetry etc. Short Poems, Haiku and Tanka appeared in number of literary journals (both print and web) in India, USA, UK, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Africa including Poetry Time, Poet, Creative Forum, Poetcrit, Kritya, World Haiku Review, LYNX, Akita International Haiku Network, Poetry Pages, The Notes From the Gean, The Four Seasons of Haiku, Poetbay, Anglo-Japanese Society (Tanka Online), Ambrosia, Sketchbook , Atlas Poetica, Kokako, Berry Blue Haiku, Simply Haiku, The Houston Literary Review and others.

Poem by Gabriela Marie Milton – Literary Revelations: Hidden in Childhood – Call for Submission

Poem by Gabriela Marie Milton

I call into being the taste of that which is hidden below the existence.

The breath of a salty ocean on my skin.

Everything is here between primal and the infinity of possibilities: the epistemes of love; the essence of beauty; the whispers of a language you cannot understand.

You need me in your bones.

The moon needs me in her naked light.

Wounds I Healed: The Poetry of Strong Women (an Anthology) โ€“ Call for Submissions

Dear Readers,

With great pleasure I announce that submissions are now open for the anthology: Wounds I Healed: The Poetry of Strong Women. This anthology will be edited, and curated, by me and published by Experiments in Fiction.

For those of you who do not know me, I am Gabriela Marie Milton a #1 Amazon bestselling poet, and an internationally published author. My literary work appeared in various magazines and anthologies. I am the author of the #1 best-selling poetry collection ‘Woman: Splendor and Sorrow’ (Vita Brevis Press, July 2021) and, the author of ‘Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings’ (Vita Brevis Press, April 2020). Under the name Gabriela M I was awarded 2019 Author of the Year at Spillwords Press (NYC). My piece ‘If I say I love you’ was nominated for 2020 Spillwords Press Publication of the Year (Poetic). Presently I am the editor of MasticadoresUsa.

I am honored to have this anthology published by Experiments in Fiction, a publishing house owned by Ingrid Wilson who is herself a successful poet and writer, nominated for Spillwords Author of the Year 2021. Her previous publications include โ€˜The Anthropocene Hymnal: Songs of a Self-defining Eraโ€™ in July 2020: a poetic response to the climate and ecological crisis.

That said, letโ€™s get down to business.

Theme:

I seek poetry that addresses the challenges women face in our society, and the diversity of means they use to overcome pain and accomplish their dreams.  How you interpret the theme is up to you.

I chose this theme because I wanted to underscore how powerful women are, and how much they can accomplish regardless of the adversities most of them go through. Women are strong. Women can stand up for themselves and be successful under very difficult circumstances.  Please tell us about your struggle and your successes.

I did not choose this theme as a social posture. If I had done so some people would have thought โ€“ perhaps – that womenโ€™s work is inconsequential unless grouped under the label of feminism and/or similar categorizations. Let me be clear. No matter how one looks at this anthology, the featured poems included in it will be outstanding and consequential. That much I can promise you.

If your work is selected for publication, please remember that it is not a certificate of belonging to one group or another.  Your work will be a testimony of your poetic talent, and your power to overcome difficulties and reach for the sky.

Submission guidelines:

Please submit two poems at shortprose12@gmail.com.

Submit your poems in a Word Document, together with a short bio.  You should use Times New Roman 12, double space. No poem should be longer than one page. No bio should be longer than 400 characters.

Please title you submission Wounds I Healed: The Poetry of Strong Women.
