Portuguese Guitar
The ocean hammers coffin nails into my bones
The boat too small to carry all my sorrow
I cannot fit into a single bottle the apple of Alcobaça
Levante winds throw roses on my windows
I want you now to save me from this hollow spleen
The magical twelve strings guitar of Fado Português
The twelve apostles of the unknown Christ
To stretch my body till I fall asleep
Between twelve apples
And your lips

I particularly like this line: “The twelve apostles of the unknown Christ.” It seems to speak to an unspoken story.
Thank you so much dear Liz. I am glad you enjoyed that line.
You’re welcome, Gabriella.

Beautiful, read it three times to let it sink in properly.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart Sandra. It means so much to me 🙏🌹🌺
Ohh first your poem, so languid, hopeless, full of pain and sorrow but relief awaits in the “magical twelves strings” and the lips of a lover and a voice like Carminho translating all you feel into song. Caminho and Mariza are my favorites. I love the Portuguese singers…they dive into my soul and bring up feelings I didn’t even know were down there. Such a wonderful fmood and scene you painted Gabriela!!
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment dearest Karima. I am so glad you liked the piece.
“Caminho and Mariza are my favorites. I love the Portuguese singers…they dive into my soul and bring up feelings I didn’t even know were down there” Beautiful words. Fado is an exceptional type of music. My music 🙂
Mariza, superb voice, unique style..
Love you hon. Have a beautiful evening. This is for you.

Awww so beautiful..the whole history of fado…love and longing. I once wrote a poem Portuguese Singing Ladies” in honor of them all https://karimahoisan.com/2017/10/27/portuguese-singing-ladies/ Thank you for the YouTube…I am enjoying it so much.
Aw… what a beautiful poem. What a gorgeous tribute to all of them. You are wonderful. For some reason I cannot like the post and comment. Something wrong with my site today. But hon again your words took my breath away. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Love you.

Nothing quite like fado. I swear someday I am going to fly to Porto for no other reason than to sit in a night time venue and listen to it. 🙂
You got to have a glass of Port to go with 🙂
