Life Collage by Gabriela Marie Milton
I experienced mama’s death before she died.
I hate the order of things with its self-indulgent predictability.
The airport – the point of departures and returns – smell of food and disinfectant. Gray overtones.
This world would be a better place if we were more interested in others’ creations than in their personal lives.
I used to run away from home when I was a child. Every rose tore my soul. I picked up the pieces and wrapped the sick and the hungry with them. What’s left of my soul?
When my second novel came out, you said, “What a splendid tribute to your master.” I asked, “Who’s my master?” “Patrick Modiano.” I thought, “Who on earth is Patrick Modiano?” Yet I understood. The past. My obsession with the past. I went out and ordered every book Modiano has written.
I have nothing to say anymore.

That’s a wonderful and poignant poem, Gabriela. You were a little runaway? You seem to have a rebellious side that keeps your passion and compassion in check. With 40 novels, Monsieur Modiano is certainly a master. Have you read all his books you ordered?
Thank you for the wonderful comment Tim. Oh, yes, I have a very rebellious side and I was a little runaway. I was getting bored. My parents managed to find me every time. It started when I was 3 years old.
“With 40 novels, Monsieur Modiano is certainly a master” I read most of them. It’s not difficult. As someone pointed out – I cannot remember where I read that – if one puts all his “books” together one comes out with one single book 🙂 His writings are generally short.
Have a beautiful day Tim, and thank you again.
I agree with you, Tim. The poem is absolutely wonderful. The first line alone is a theme on it own.
Thank you hon. Sending you a big hug. Enjoy your weekend.
Thank you.

Heartbreaking 💔

The past. Our obsession with the past 🙂 Fluid, analytical and lucid. A page that remains in the reader’s memory.
Good morning and thank you so much for your comment Virginia. I hope you are well and the sky is blue in Montreal today. Sending love. Enjoy your Friday.

Congratulations on your many successes, Gabriela! I enjoyed reading that first paragraph. ❤️☺️
Thank you so much John. Your support and kindness mean a lot to me. Enjoy your weekend 🌸
Ride your energy to even more greater things. I would have submitted a poem but it was 333 word count and would not be considered for publications. I looked at shortening the poem and the poetry would look like a train wreck. Congratulations and continued success with your publishing house.
Joseph, it’s so good to have you here. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for stopping by and for your kind words. Come to think of it the topic of the anthology is perfect for you. Your poetry… the feelings that you have transmitted in your work over the years… the videos on your blog. 333 word count. Please send me the poem.
Did you get my 4 emails I sent to literary revelations?
I got you. I wrote you back. I need a bio and permission to publish your poem in the anthology.

Hey beautiful Gabriela! This is amazing. Like a packed, quiet room in between noisy places. This may sound strange but You took me to a place similar to where Neal Brennan did in his comedy show 3 mics. If You haven’t seen it….there are literally 3 mics onstage. Spaced out. Independently lit. There were black outs when he went from one mic to another and I was never sure where he would appear. At one of the mics he would just speak rawly. Nakedly. Truth tidbits about his life. At least that’s how I remember it. This took me to the same place. I felt I was in a room with You, Your brilliant poetry all around….and in a quiet space in the middle: this. You took me aback in such a lovely way. Thank You. You gift so much!!! Love You! Huge hugs! 🤗
My Goodness Katy, you are a gem.

Remembrances of a difficult time linked to thoughts throughout ones life. A fascinating write and I just love the lines, “Every rose tore my soul. I picked up the pieces and wrapped the sick and the hungry with them.” I too, was a runaway. However, there is only so much cover in the southern forest. Have a blessed week and great big hugs, Joni
Thank you so much dearest Joni, and sorry for my late reply. I am so glad you liked that passage hon. ” I too, was a runaway” It’s an epidemic 😉
Have a blessed weekend filled with love.
xoxo
Once again mesmerizing, Gabriela, moments out of space and time(just like it really is( joined together, in this enigmatic, memorial to your spirit, your core and where you come from. So honored to know you…and yes, my rebel always knew yours:)

There are some amazing, wondrous lines written here, Gabriela, and I see, like me, you had a rebellious streak running through you. I love when I can relate to someone’s work; that’s always the case with you and it definitely doesn’t seem like “work”! Brava, cara mia!! Big hugs always xx
Hon, so sorry, for my late reply. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful words. Love you with all my heart.

Beautiful poem, Gabriela. A glimpse of the tangle that’s childhood as we struggle to become ourselves in a complex world. Loved this one. Love your talent. Submitting in a few minutes. 😀
Thank you so much Diana for your beautiful words.
YAY! I get to have your poems. Such an honor. I can’t wait to read them. You made me happy. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Just sent. Hopefully I followed all the directions. Ha ha. Crossing my fingers that you enjoy them and they find a place. Happy Holidays, my friend.
I am sure I will Diana. Happy Holidays to you too hon ❤️🌸🌹
The past weighs heavy on my heart
A burden that I can’t outrun
I try to shake it off and start
But the memories still come
I turn to art and literature
In search of solace and release
But each new page only brings more
Reminders of what I can’t retrieve
I long for a life that’s free
From the chains of memory
But they cling to me so tightly
I fear they’ll never set me be
I wonder if I’ll ever find
A way to leave the past behind
And live in the present, unconfined
But for now, I am resigned
What a beautiful poem. Thank you sharing 🙏🌹
Thank you for what you do. I haven’t attempted to publish poetry or story in 12 years. I had 40 poems published everywhere in the eighties and the nineties. Tomorrow. I will quit being lazy. The great writers need to be published. The Literary Revelations Publishing House is needed.
Thank you for your kind words. It’s a bit busy but I would be thrilled to publish some of your poems in the LR Journal sometime in Spring, of course if you wish. Here is the Journal https://literaryrevelations.com/journal/
I would like this dear Gabriela. I am retired now. I have time to edit 2600 poems and stories. It is hard work to get organized. I appreciate the kindness. Joni gave me direction also.
Wonderful. You can find the guidelines to submit to our Journal on the Literary Revelations site.
Okay dear Gabriela and thank you.
My pleasure John.
