Hallucinations by Gabriela Marie Milton

I suspect I am subject to hallucinations. I see a woman wrapped in a Cashmere checkered shawl talking to a dead person. The metaphors she uses are stolen, and her heavy makeup reminds me vaguely of a harlequin. Perhaps the shawl projected its sick personality into her, or perhaps she regressed to an infantile state under my very eyes.

She looks like a lacerated doll attached to one of Cuixar’s canvases.

Did you talk? Are you here?

My love, yesterday I read your poems. Your spellbound words reclaimed my very existence. Letters fell into my cupped palms. From the mirror the contour of your body – textured like ripened mangoes under a third eclipse of the moon – entered my world. Your words adapted to my lips. They absorbed the piano’s euphoria with its marvelous rhythmicity.  Our happiness became imperative like the birth of a child at 39 weeks.

Today I am back – albeit sedated – inside the ambivalence of my own introspections swinging from one site to another like the Kirby Cove swing above the Pacific Ocean.

I do not see the woman anymore, but I can still see the dead person. The throbbing pain of Cuixar’s paintings and your absence become unbearable.

When I do not cry myself to death, I pretend you are here.

@Gabriela Marie Milton

    1. Oh, Timothy, sometimes life is sad. The kitties are happy. They are sending purrs and treats.

      1. There is often too much sadness in this life. Yes the kitties are happy and helpful antidotes against the foul and poisonous people who want to make our lives as miserable as theirs.

      2. Indeed. The kitties are marvelous. Problem is that my shoulder hurts and both of them want to be on my shoulder at the same time 🙂 They are adorable.

    1. Thank you for your kind words Cheryl. They mean a lot to me. I am well hon. Sending love.

    1. Hi hon. Everything is well. Sending love and hugs to you and everyone you love. Have a beautiful week ahead.

  1. Gabriela … the last sentence ,,When I do not cry myself to death, I pretend you are here.” hit me like a bullet from a revolver … I just sat and yawned in front of me, that’s exactly how I feel now …. Thanks, I wake up!

    1. Thank you so much for your comment. As always it means a lot to me when you read my work. Did you want to wake up? Did I make a mistake? I am sending you a rose.

On a different note, I cannot reach your site anymore. When you get a change could you please send me your link.

Sending you a second rose 🙂

  2. Thanks You Gabriela for roses… today i needed them, thanks again! it means a lot to me, I needed to be awake,

And I’d like you to see this video, just two minutes of your precious time, I rented a plane yesterday and read in the sky … indescribable, it was for my love … and it was …. Poetry in the clouds … how much more romantic it can be 🙂

You know, Gabriela, I’m so glad to meet you, Jaskiers and other wonderful people … the experience of clinical death has stirred my life and turned it upside down … there’s nothing wrong after death, it wasn’t bad at all, yet, my love called me I’m back … so I feel like I have to give it back to her … maybe by reading in the sky.

        I’m glad You liked it.
Have a great time, everything well for You and I send a bouquet of beautiful red roses….there is one white in the middle …. just for You all yet!

        And please,sorry for my english….

      2. I am so glad you shared the link on my blog. It’s splendid. I hope more people will look at. I am happy you came back. I am happy your love called you.
I love everything about reading in the sky.
Thank you for the roses. The white one is splendid.
There is nothing wrong with your English. You do not have to apologize. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday 🌸

    1. Hi, Joseph, what can I say? I hope everything is well with you. How is the editing coming?

      1. I have revamped the book and wrote 3 chapters in two days and a half of one yesterday. I will probably write another one today and doing also my editing which I learnt from the past two editors albeit I had to send them on their way. The next one will be the right one. As stated before there is more twists and turns that are developed as I keep writing. The book is more engaging now. I am happy with the progress and my timeline to finish will be september. I hope everything is well in the corner of your world. How are you doing?

      2. Wow, September. I cannot wait. I am so glad things are going well now. I am sure is going to be a marvelous book.
All is well on my site. Thank you for asking.
My second poetry collection entitled Woman: Splendor and Sorrow is going to be published by Vita Brevis at the end of July. I am looking forward to its publication.

  3. It is a sad but beautifully written piece. The imagery is very introspective. It reminds me of when I was doing my psychiatric rotation while in nursing school.

These words are so gorgeously expressive Button

“Letters fell into my cupped palms. From the mirror the contour of your body – textured like ripened mangoes under a third eclipse of the moon – entered my world”

Sadness is indeed a big part of life and you have exposed so many different emotions with this piece. I love the form, picture and how it swings us from one emotion to the next.

Hope that shoulder is improving. Sending prayers for quick healing.
    Love you,
    Honeybun ❤️🤗😘🌺🌹😘🦋🦋

    1. My dearest honeybun, I do not know how I missed this beautiful comment. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind words and for your generous support. I am glad you enjoy those lines.

“Hope that shoulder is improving. Sending prayers for quick healing.” Thank you. It’s not improving as it should because I keep using my right arm. I should stop writing for a while but I cannot afford that.

Sending love. May you have a magical day filled with joy honeybun.
      xoxoxo.,

      1. You are so welcome dear Button. I loved the piece. I am sorry to hear your arm is not improving. Is it possible to use “voice to text” with your computer or IPhone?

I am sorry to hear this. I will keep the prayers coming. I understand the need to write now but please be as careful as possible.

Thank you for your love and sending more back. So excited to get your new book. The cover is brilliant. ❤️
        Love,
        Honeybun

      2. Thank you so much honeybun. I have to evaluate some research and voice to text is not going to work well. You are gem. Thank you again for everything 🌸🥰🌹❤️🌸🥰🌹❤️

  4. Wonderfully written, dear Gabriela, albeit sad. May the days ahead renew your spirit and with a fresh flame, warm your heart once again. Best wishes for a fine week ahead, my friend 🤗🌹

      1. It’s a powerful mix, hard to achieve. You did a great job with it.

All continues to be well and sunny here. I hope you are well too?

      2. Thank you again Basilike. I am ok and I am glad everything is well with you too. How is the book coming?

      3. I just got ideas for two more stories, but it generally goes slow. I’ve decided to not worry about it and let it flow as it comes.

      4. Great. Please keep me updated 🥰❤️🌹🌸🥰❤️🌹

  5. Bravo, Gabriela. Exquisitely done. Chilling, haunting and beautiful. I felt… like I had been there, maybe wanted to be there, then left, wherever that place was, and only dreams remained.
Happy week ahead to all 😊
    Ford

    1. Aw… I am humbled beyond words by your beautiful comment. Thank you.

“I felt… like I had been there, maybe wanted to be there, then left, wherever that place was, and only dreams remained.” Those words are gorgeous. They left me breathless. Thank you for each and one of them.
      Have fabulous week ahead.
      xoxo

      1. Gabriela, I was left in awe by the power and beauty of your piece, and so I read it again and tried to think what to say… then I scratched that and decided to ‘feel’ what to say, and my response was the reply – which I’m so pleased you enjoyed 🙂

If you get time, please read my long poem ‘The Remains of She’, a writing and sculpture collaboration you may enjoy: https://theatomicmage.com/2021/06/01/the-remains-of-she/

  7. I have read it over a few times and will again Gabriela❣️. It truly is a sad piece yet truth prevails in the words of many that live this ..
    these lines:
“I do not see the woman anymore, but I can still see the dead person. The throbbing pain of Cuixar’s paintings and your absence become unbearable. ”

someone’s existence mattered which is the gift that chills to the bone.

  8. This is such a poignant example of prose. It is heart touching, and evocative. Despite the grey subject, the imagery has been perfect, as usual.

“textured like ripened mangoes under a third eclipse of the moon”
Ah, now who would have thought?

Just a stunning, stunning piece. A perfect example of how random words, if strung together, can create such melancholy atmospherics.
    Stunning.

    1. Thank you so much my dearest friend. I am grateful for every word you wrote. I am humbled by your praise. 🥰🌹🌹🥰🌹
      What’s for dinner? 😊
