The Orphic Egg – poem by Gabriela Marie Milton up at Vita Brevis Poetry Magazine

 Philipp Tur; Shutterstock

The builder of all things lives in me along with the seven disoriented ships he anchored in the port last spring.
The summer dried the sea.
The wood of the ships got rotten.
The masts got buried in the wickedness of empty sunsets.
It is winter.
It is Wednesday.
I was in the washing room. I saw you folded my laundry.
In the library the Orphic Egg suspends itself from the ceiling fan.
Under its pale light I study my hands with the same precision the child studies his.
I shed my clothes as snakes shed their skin.
I feel your index finger contouring my spine.
One by one your writings penetrate my mind.
The dimorphism of your poems spiral in two directions: torrential love and logical deductions.
They are both the product of your brain.  I cannot kill them. I must allow them to exit.
The object of my poetry?
Not to concede…

  5. “It is Winter.” It is Wednesday.” I am getting to recognize your style..little turns of phrase, which just electrify the visual you bring/ every poem, is a scene. I movie I step into, as you take yourself and all of us.. moving through the streets, the hours, the “seven disoriented ships” I am starting to be able to say, “Gabriela wrote this, I bet”….. but, at the same time, you are consistently surprising, your verse, your choice of words, give me good jolts…and smiles of admiration. Big Hugs Gabriela โค๏ธ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿค—

      1. Wow. Thank you for letting me know. For about 2 years I am telling WP that my posts do not appear in the readers of some of my followers. Every time I complain they say they fixed it. It never got fixed until now letโ€™s hope. I cannot even follow myself anymore. I did not check to see perhaps now I can. Sorry for the long answer but you made my morning๐ŸŒนEnjoy the rest of your day Victoria and thank you for everything.

      2. Better late than never ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, thank you again for letting me know.
        xoxo

  6. This is another brilliant piece my friend.
“In the library the Orphic Egg suspends itself from the ceiling fan.” A cascading of visuals that come from good and evil from within the universe, and also from the mythological gods. Many defining examples and symbolism that explores one’s childhood for example and how we are not defined by it.

“Under its pale light I study my hands with the same precision the child studies his.”
You will not kill your thoughts they have to exist and to bring experiences whether you desire them or not. Also that you can not be compromised you must remain true to yourself and your heart.

“Not to concede life to touching pleasantries, fake passions, cliches, and the concentration of nothingness.”

I think the seven ships represent the soul and the stages one goes through in life and that you are the owner of your experiences and you will enjoy them and there is nothing that is fake about yourself.

My favorite line two lines are: “I displace the dark for the benefit of light. I am the Orphic Egg.”

So much depth to this piece that it is hard to take in without a breather. I love the sensuality at the end of the poem.

This is gorgeous beautiful Button. Congratulations on another publication in Vita Brevis!

    Love honeybun, xoxoxoxo

    1. Good morning my dearest honeybun and thank you for your beautiful comment and for sharing your interpretation with me. Interesting indeed.

      1. Good morning to you Beautiful Button. It is always such a delicious experience reading your work. I hope you donโ€™t mind me sharing my interpretation. I process your gorgeous words that way.

Everything is good thank you so much for asking. We are buying a home today in the mountains on North Carolina and we will have a smaller house but nine acres. So many beautiful trees and I will get pigmy goats and chickens and plant wild flowers.

Sending you buckets of love and hugs. Honeybun
        ๐Ÿค—โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿฅฐ

      2. Aw.. how exciting. Congratulations. May your new home be blessed with love and happiness. I truly hope you guys will enjoy.
I want to sell my home too, not because is big ( well, itโ€™s very big indeed) but mostly because of the 10 acres of land that I have. Three are landscaped and the upkeep is very costly. The other seven are not but every time a tree falls we have to call a company to cut it and take it from here. That costs too. None of us is used to take care of animals or do anything outdoors. Oh, yes, the two kitties but they are indoor cats. We donโ€™t allow them to go out.

I hope you guys enjoy your outdoors. I want to buy a condo in the city but we are used to so much space inside that I do not know exactly how that can work.
Anyway, Good luck, Love and Blessings Honeybun

I also wish you the very best with selling your property if that is truly what you want. It can be very expensive and troublesome just handling one fallen tree so I do
        Understand.

Love and blessings to you beautiful Button. Also I will definitely keep you updated. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿค—โค๏ธ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ˜˜๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒน๐ŸŽˆHoneybun

  7. This was so enticing. I cannot believe what I just read.
It is beauty in the simplest of attires. My eyes are transfixed at the fluidity of this piece. It’s very soulful, and earthy. Rich, dark, luxuriant.
I am still taking in the entirety of what I just read.

    “It is Wednesday.

    It is winter.ย ”
    Sensual and flamboyant.

    1. My dearest friend,
i am so sorry for replying late. I do not know how I did not see your comment until now.
As always I am so humbled by your words and so grateful for your praise.
Thank you. Thank you> Thank you.
      Sending love and hugs.

      1. It is absolutely okay with me. I understand, WP has some weird glitches quite a lot of times.
        It was a wonderful pleasure.
        How’s Easter coming along?

      2. Thank you for your understanding my dearest friend. You are a gem. My entire family is Catholic and we are trying to make the best of this day. As for me I am the only one that was baptized Greek Orthodox so my Easter is next Sunday. I get to celebrate it twice although this year is not too much celebration going around.
I hope you are well. I miss your poetry and I will catch up soon.
Sending you plenty of love ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒนโค๏ธ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒนโค๏ธ

      3. That is actually wonderful. I would do all to have some simnel twice in a month.
I am absolutely well, and I am in a poem a day mode for national poetry month. Will post sometime soon, with all weekly poems.
        Sending you a bunny๐Ÿ™‚

      4. Thank you. Thank you. I canโ€™t wait to read your beautiful poems ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒนโค๏ธ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒนโค๏ธ

    1. Oh, thank you from the bottom of my heart ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒนโค๏ธ

  8. Awesome piece Gabriella and loved all of the symbolism.
These were some of my favorite lines:
“The dimorphism of your poems spiral in two directions: torrential love and logical deductions.
They are both the product of your brain. I cannot kill them. I must allow them to exit”.

sooo much honor in the process of all of our sides,
Happy Easter and your kind comments a ways back.
You went to spam and I couldn’t dig them out. Hate when that happens.
