Daughter of This Earth poem by Gabriela Marie Milton

inside the altars of the churches with blue cupolas
he recounts the spring cuckoo’s notes
his cries strip him of himself
modify his flesh until the days are born from the wounds of his feet
daughter of this earth
I can hear his bones cracking with love for you
his voice made from curses and myrrh
his body stretched between heaven and the bloom of the olive trees
his retina caught inside the limonite of the yellow marble
everything speaks of the impossibility of tomorrow
daughter of this earth
you
who travel in the lands of the snakes with no name
and shed your skin and your beauty in every sunset
you are the virginal sin in the nights of the hyacinths
show mercy
go back to him
the resurrection is near

  1. Dearest Button,
I had to stop reading as my tears flooded my ability to see. This is the most beautiful piece I have ever read about the experience on the cross through some one else’s eyes. This may not be what you the poet is thinking of but for me it was.
Such touching and depth to the imagery and chosen words that I am still choked up. BRAVO!
    Love honeybun (J)

  3. it’s out of feelings … it’s almost physical, when I imagine someone saying it to a real person in the real world, out loud, addressing him like that, and would any of us be there ??? It’s fantastic!

    1. You take my breath away. Thank you again for the praise and for being you.

  5. How beautiful are these words. You have taken the best of the images and somehow managed to incorporate an unsettling fear of losing love. It’s an eerie reflection of lost love, yet while reading the images one has to believe of a wonderful day. Quite a perplexing and interesting read this time.
“I can hear his bones cracking with love for you”
Profoundly surprising. And coincidental too to this time of the year.

    mostra misericordia
    torna a lui
    la risurrezione è vicina

    magnifica! Saluti dall’Italia
