the child to be #poem #prose poem #short prose #short story

I cut my hair.

I put it in a bag made of white silk.

Skies succeed one another.

The third one descends upon me.

It’s Wednesday; the day of red carnations.

Your blood vessels kill my dreams like algae blooms kill fish.

From Thursday – why are you one sky ahead of me? –  your voice curls in every cell of my body.

The child will be born face up. He will watch the stars on their way to nowhere.

I shudder. My breath heaves. Milky moonlight descends upon my breasts.

What child?

On Friday you reply.

The one we’ll make when we meet on Sunday.

My nails dig into my left thigh. My blood smells like carnations.  It ought to be still Wednesday. It can’t be Friday. Friday smells like Rose de Grasse d’Or.

What are you talking about? We do not meet on Sundays. I sew clothing on Sundays.  In fact, we never meet.

Your voice comes from Monday.

Our child to be. The one who has a bishop as a grandfather. The one you know no other love but ours can bore. The one who will contemplate the stars on their way to nowhere.

I take my hair from the bag.

I start placing it back on my head.

It must be Tuesday.

  2. This is very interesting, Gabriela. I like it a lot but it seems much more supernatural or haunting, with maybe just a touch of apprehension! It is quite an effect.

    1. Good morning Darren. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment. I wanted the piece to feel supranatural and haunting. Perhaps I succeeded 🙂
May the rest of your weekend be gorgeous.

  3. This is beyond gorgeous Button. Like a beautiful dream.

“I put it in a bag made of white silk”

“Your blood vessels kill my dreams like algae blooms kill fish”

“milky moonlight descends upon my breast”

    “My blood smells like carnations”

Your use of words in this piece are amazingly powerful. Beautiful piece Button. I love every line and the visuals they create. You have truly created something spectacular here.

Have a lovely Sabbath my dear friend. Hope all is going well.

Sending lots of love ❤️ (J) honeybun.

      2. Thank you again for your lovely words, Joni. They mean a lot to me. I am not working on my new book 😉 Those excerpts are from parts that are already written.
Love and hugs right back to you. And a kiss 🙂

  4. WOW. This is remarkable, G. I love the themes entwined with fate and free will. It’s absolutely mesmerizing and enchanting to read. Such a powerful and yet poignant piece. I’m definitely feeling that sort of delay the narrator experiences—such as what day it is. It’s evocatively beautiful with so many layers to pull back and find more subtleties in the beauty and bare-bones of your words. It’s visceral and haunting to me, especially this line:

“Your blood vessels kill my dreams like algae blooms kill fish.”

Mind blowing. Fascinating. It makes me ponder where you get your inspirations from! I’m always in awe of your work, G, but you brought this dear reader a ticket to Mars; and instead of merely issuing that ticket, you took me right there to the planet instead. Your writing is incredible, your prose knows no bounds. It’s amazing!

Such beautiful writing here (as always 😉). My mind is still absorbing the raw and complex imagery from your words. Wow.

    1. Aw.. Lucy, your comment brought me to my knees. I hardly can breathe. Sweetheart, I have no words to thank you for your wonderful words of praise. Your comment is beautiful and humbling. I am buying you a ticket to the land of love. May you be loved forever. May your beautiful poetry enchant us forever, and may you have a thousand years of happiness.
“It makes me ponder where you get your inspirations from!” Well, the answer is that most of the time I have no idea. Words come to me. They just want to be written.
Thank you again sweetheart. May your week be fabulous. May your writing shine as always.
      Yours
      G.

  8. My dearest Gabriela, my beautiful rose, my talented friend. This excerpt that speaks of fate and love and mystery, that touches the edges of passion and pain, that touches my heart. It’s dream-like and surreal, it creates a sense of the voices of future and past connecting. And your imagery…. I want to sink into it, experience each of the days of the week, especially Sunday.

Honey, I’m so sorry I’ve been so absent. My life took an unexpected turn into chaos and, to be honest, sadness. I know hiding is not the best answer but it’s the way I cope sometimes. I hope you can forgive me.

Your work is breathtaking my love, and I send you the breath of blossoms and my love from my Monday to your Sunday. Lots of love xoxoxoxox

    1. My forever fabulous Rachel. My heart stopped when I saw your comment. You have nothing to apologize for sweetheart. Nothing. I should have written to you. I sent you an email an hour ago but… . I don’t know what else to say Rachel. I am so sorry I did not write to you sooner. I thought that… well I explained what I thought in my email.
Rachel, I am sending you flowers, hugs, scented candles, and all the love I have in my heart. You are a princess, hon. You are the poetess of my heart. Come out of the shadows. Be well. Be happy.
      xoxoxo….

      1. Aww hon, I did not mean or want to stop your heart. You did not need to write to me earlier, or at all (but thank you, you are a sweetheart and I will respond soon), I just wanted to explain myself for just disappearing. I have felt very guilty for it… Your message has made me cry, you make me feel so loved. And you are the poetess or my heart honey, when I read you, my heart soars. I hope you are well, and I cherish those candles and flowers and hugs and love. More than you could know. Sending you light and love beautiful G xoxoxo

      2. Rachel, hon, please do not feel any pressure to respond unless you really want to respond. Please try to relax. Breathe. Try to start new. It’s hard. I know. My love for you is here. I am here for you anytime.
Sending you a million of hugs
        xoxo…

      2. Thank you so much Amy. I am so grateful for your wonderful wishes 💝💕🌸🤗🌹❤️

  10. Whoa. Certainly sublime. It had such beautiful imagery. Certainly awestriking and bold. There was this sense of time shift in each of the lines and I felt horror….no wrong word. I felt a chill run down my spine. Poignant and flamboyant, nonetheless

    1. Aw… I am humbled by your comment my dearest friend.
“I felt a chill run down my spine.” I do that to people form time to time. Especially during full moons 🙂
Thank you for everything Shanyu. You are a darling.
Sending you a tons of hugs. No chills 🙂
      xoxo
      G.

      1. My pleasure dearest poetess. Is there a reason to it if you don’t mind?
I’m so glad you call me a darling. I’m flattered 🙂.
Caught your hugs. Will be catching chills in the approaching full moon maybe.
        Love,
        Shanyu.

      2. You are a darling 🙂 Glad you caught my hugs. I can make the chills go away. I can do magic and flowers will bloom under the full moon and leaves will dance only for you 😉 Haha! I am kidding. Are you getting chills again?
Be well and thank you for everything my dear friend.

    1. Robert, I wanted to spark things up inside your mind. perhaps inside your soul too. I am serious. That’s the purpose of art, isn’t it?

  11. Oh my…..WOW!! So mystical, so gorgeous, and so….mysterious! I am breathless after reading this magnificent excerpt…..I’m so looking forward to read this book of yours!! The excerpts you post leave me speechless and leave me wanting for more❤❤

The confusion of the narrator has been described so BEAUTIFULLY by you.

“Your blood vessels kill my dreams like algae blooms kill fish.”
How do you….?!! Just….OH MY GODS!!

“From Thursday – why are you one sky ahead of me? –  your voice curls in every cell of my body.”
I can feel what you write here dear Gabriela.

“Milky moonlight descends upon my breasts.”
The descriptions and visuals your words create….just oof!😍😍

Sending love, hugs and a bouquet of red carnations🌺💐💐🌷
    Have a splendid day sweetheart!♥️♥️
