Passions: a New Poem Entitled Son of the Desert, and a Thank You #poetry #book collection

Son of the Desert

oh, let the summer come and go
wrapped into my dreams
coiling on your pillow
son of the desert
you look like the founder of gods
eyes hunt the cracks of pyramids
sands nest in your folded lips
under your sight
my breasts blossom
voices of the children of the moon
cupped palms filled with tears
son of the desert
tonight
I play my notes
close to your skin

And…

My deepest thanks to Timothy for the wonderful review of my book: Passions: Love Poems and Other Writings [available on Amazon here]. Timothy is beyond talented. Please visit his site to find gorgeous and professional videos clips, pictures, beautiful poetry and songs.
Are you an animal lover? Look no further. Visit Timothy’s site.

On a different note, Timothy is very generous. I was gifted a tree on Timothy’s property along side the Rio Grande. Actually there are several women on WP who have trees on Timothy’s propriety. I am just one of them.

Here is an excerpt from Timothy’s review. You can read the entire review on Amazon.

Thank you.
Love
Gabriela

  2. Oh Button I truly love this poem, every line is gorgeous filled with amazing imagery. “under your sight
my breasts blossom
voices of the children of the moon
cupped palms filled with tears
son of the desert”. Your world is such an exciting place to visit. Just as your reviewer talked about one can experience a sense of love and passion just by turning a page in your book. What an amazing review and again every word true. I am surprised he didn’t plant a small forest after reading your book as well as naming all the trees after your lovely poems safely inside its pages. No, seriously what a very kind gesture to have a tree planted in your honor. What a blessing. Congratulations on the great review and a tree – you know how I love trees. love and hugs to you, and have a wonderful weekend beautiful Button. J (Honeybun)

    1. I actually have a small forest on the property between the trees, rose bushes, and black bamboo. Out here in the desert, trees are scarce, but I’m fortunate to live along the Rio Grande and am part of the narrow Cottonwood forest that runs along the Rio Grande. I irrigate the property from the acequia madre, an age-old practice brought to New Mexico by the Spanish 400 years ago. The Rio Grande, the Cottonwoods, and the customs that persist are magic. Gabriela has an old cottonwood that looks over the acequia madre. Owls, hawks, and other birds sit in her tree and watch the spirits dancing in the bosque to the “voices of the children of the moon”.

      1. Timothy, it’s a fairytale. Your words are magic. Your place is magic and it is filled with love for everyone.
“an age-old practice brought to New Mexico by the Spanish 400 years ago.” I need to look into this practice. A colleague of mine was arguing that some Spanish communities in your area are actually Jewish ( that ran away from the Inquisition) and some of them don’t even know they are Jewish. Your state has a very interesting story.
And again your place is magic and filled with love.

      2. There are crypto-Jews in New Mexico. I have friends who wondered about some of the different practices of their parents and grandperants when we were growing up, and as adults they learned they were Jewish. New Mexcio is a strange and magical land. It’s rightly called “The Land of Enchantment” and “The Enchantment Factor” is an economic term for people who with take lower pay and limited economic benefits in exchange for living in “The Land of Enchantment”. Governor Lew Wallace (the Lew Wallace who wrote “Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ”) once said “All calculations based on our experiences elsewhere fail in New Mexico.” That is still true today.

I have a short paper I presented at a Medieval Conference in 2018 titled “Cuatrocientos Años de Soledad:
Memory and Remembrance of 17th and 18th Century Spanish Colonialism in North-central New Mexico”. I can send you a copy if you would like.

      3. Thank you so much for your answer Timothy. Yes, I love your state. It’s gorgeous.
I would love to read the paper. Could you please email it to me at poetryandprose18@gmail.com?
Thank you so much for everything.

      4. Oh how beautiful. What an enormous blessing to be surrounded by such beauty and adding to its glory by planting. What a lover of nature you are and a family that protects that gift. What an amazing story. I like to think that Gabriela has a tree in such a splendid setting “birds sit in her tree and watch the spirits dancing in the bosque to the ‘voices of the children of the moon.’
        Love and hugs Joni 🌸🌺

    2. Honeybun, you melted my heart. What do I do now?
Thank you so much for your gorgeous words. I am thrilled you liked the poem. Your support and your friendship means the world to me. You bless my mornings with your beautiful words and with your incredible talent.
Joni, the tree was there. He did not plant it. He just gave it to me. And I am so grateful to him.
Thank you again honeybun. You are an angel. We have a rendez-vous soon 🙂 I can’t wait.
      Have a blessed weekend sweetheart.
      Sending you love and hugs.

      1. Wow, what an exciting thing to do. I have read where your tree sits. Just such a beautiful thought. I loved your poem Button. You are so welcome. I am excited about June 3rd, so excited- Yea! Your words make my days even more beautiful too my friend. Have a glorious weekend and I am sending you thoughts of wonder and love. J (honeybun)

      2. So, you must have gotten my reply. Thank you so much for your marvelous words.I love you honeybun and I am looking forward to June 3rd.
        xoxoxoxo

      3. Yes, thank you Button. Some of your comments don’t show up until hours later but I have been having issues as well. I would never cut off comments. We could not figure out how that setting was changed. I am not as computer savvy as I would like but my husband’s degree is in mathematics and computer science. Even he can’t figure out what it is. WordPress does an amazing job but they are getting, I would guess close to twice as many post since the pandemic. Again thank you for alerting me about the closed comments. WordPress does a pretty amazing job and most of the time I get comments immediately. Thank you again Button. Love and kisses from hummingbirds today! Honeybun 😘🌸🌺❤️

      4. Joni. I was talking about my comment in reply to your comment left on my blog today. Anyway, please know that I am always replying to your comments. I have no idea what’s up with WP. I was on live chat with them 4 hours yesterday. Well, perhaps they are overwhelmed. It did not use to be like this. Let’s hope things improve.
        Have a beautiful weekend honeybun
        xoxoxoxo

    3. Honeybun, Did you get my reply? I wrote a long reply to you and I can see it anymore. Can you?

      1. Yes Button I am sorry. We were helping an elderly couple in our neighborhood so I was trying to stay off my phone as they are in their 80’s. We just got home. When I am around people which isn’t often right now I try to ignore my phone. I did get your response. I also received a lovely response from my poem I wrote today. I am so sorry you are having problems. How frustrating especially with the new book. I will pray it gets solved. Love honeybun 🌸🌺❤️💕

  3. I am touched beyond belief reading this wonderful poem and then finding you had mentioned my review, my blog and the trees. The poem is filled will fantastic imagery and lovely emotions. Thank you so much, Gabriela. You are so beautiful and passionate. But that goes without saying reading your poetry and short prose.

    1. Timothy, you have no idea how grateful I am to you. I am grateful for your magnificent review, for your beautiful work, for updating everyone on the kitties and the owlets, for your music, your photography, and your video clips. Everybody knows I have a tree along side the Rio Grande. Thank you for everything Timothy.
You guys have a fabulous day.

      1. I really appreciate you, Gabriela. There’s not much point to living if we don’t use whatever talents we have to make each other happy. Give Maya a big hug and kiss for me. All the kitties send you purrs, hugs and kisses.

      2. Thank you so much.
“There’s not much point to living if we don’t use whatever talents we have to make each other happy” I agree with you Timothy. Tell the kitties Maya and I thank them from the bottom of our hearts and we are sending back love, hugs and treats.

      1. Oh, you are a gem Aruna. I know that. I hope you are well.

  8. Ok, dear G, I wish to be wrapped in dreams such as these, in passion, history, exactly like this:

    “son of the desert
tonight
I play my notes
close to your skin”

Your poetry is absolutely iconic, unmistakably you every time, but every time absolutely unique and exquisite and lush and lavish, and… well, you know, all those adjectives.

Also, I’m sorry I’ve missed posts, I’ve had a bit of a WP break. Everything kind of caught up with me I guess. I got overwhelmed and behind and everything slid. Anyway, I’m back now and you are a huge reason why. How can I live without your poetry end friendship?

Lots of love to you dearest Gabriela. I wish you dreams as beautiful as your poetry. Xoxoxox

    1. Thank you so much for another beautiful comment Rachel. Your words mean so much to me sweetheart.

Sending you plenty of beautiful roses.
      xoxoxo

  9. Crazy cool experience with Your beautiful poem here, Gabriela! I read it a few hours ago and then was called away when my sweet man woke up; so I hadn’t had time to comment. Just sitting down now I read it again. The first time around, for whatever reason, I didn’t read it literally and it took me to other worlds. You awaken my wanderlust sometimes deeply and that’s what happened. I was in the desert….magical…..Amazing. This time reading it I was taken to an incredible man. I could see him and feel him in my heart. Just wonderful all the way around…both experiences! Thank You and Congratulations on another well deserved, fantastic review! I smiled so big hearing that a tree is planted in Your honour next to the Rio Grande. It’s wild, romantic and so fitting! Yay and Cheers!!! ❤️❤️❤️

    1. My dearest Katy. I have no words to tell you what your gorgeous words did to me. I am humbled and I have tears in my eyes. I am thrilled you liked the poem.
