matador de toros (bullfighter) #poem #poetry

my dress is red
your heart is pounding
your passion
matador de toros
bleeds from your arms into my veins
your eyes flame every soul in Salamanca
your fight is dance
your body burns
the bull is raging
flesh is cracking
roses from my hair fall on your wounds
stars are deaf
eternity is stopping
…
now I scribble words in lonely Sundays
echoes of bullfights in Salamanca
….

  1. Good morning G,

A very sensual piece. I was going to copy some lines that I adored, but it really meant copying the entire poem. Loved the flowing into her veins lines. The entire piece was a sensual, heart pounding metaphor hidden behind a matador and bull.

    Brilliant G.
    OlΓ©!

    1. “No tengo trono ni reina
      Ni nadie que me comprenda”

Stay safe. We need your beautiful poetry.

      1. Thank you for your kind words and for supporting me. I really appreciate that πŸ™‚

    1. I’m confused, Jay. Could you explain to me how you read this poem? Because to me it’s clear. He tries to kill the bull. The bull kills him. I am standing by. But you are not the only one that sees it differently πŸ™‚
Thank you for reading and commenting Jay. You’re great.

      1. I think Drew read it the same. WOW. I did not even think about. Thank you for this interpretation and for taking the time to explain it to me Joy.
        Hugs.

  2. Beautiful comparison of the love with cruel matador but using the metaphor of matador in love’s poem,it is amazing part of your creative and wonderful imaginative power, dear G!!

  3. “your fight is dance
    your body burns
    the bull is raging
    flesh is cracking
    roses from my hair
    fall on your wounds
stars are deaf eternity is stopping” just such gorgeous words beautiful Button. Every line is worthy of comment.

“Roses from my hair fall on your wounds” such exquisite visuals. This is my favorite line if I had to pick one.

When we went to Spain I wanted to see a matador but I was afraid I could not handle the experience. Now I will think about this beautiful work when I think of a Bullfight instead. (My husband and I plan to take your book on a picnic (he gave me a lovely picnic basket as a gift) to a glorious old oak, where we will enjoy food, a good bottle of wine and reading your poetry to one another. I still have my poetry books from high school. It is nice to have a book that you can feel, smell the pages, and read and reread over the years. I don’t like to lend my books either, you can have just about anything else I have but not one of my cherished books. Have a blessed day Button. I will post a pic of our picnic with your book. Love you J (honeybun)

    1. Such a wonderful comment Joni. You warmed my heart. You are so supportive and I am so grateful to you.
“When we went to Spain I wanted to see a matador but I was afraid I could not handle the experience” I think you could. You are a beautiful, talented and strong woman. But yes it’s quite an experience.
“Now I will think about this beautiful work when I think of a Bullfight instead.” That makes me really happy honeybun.

“(My husband and I plan to take your book on a picnic (he gave me a lovely picnic basket as a gift) to a glorious old oak, where we will enjoy food, a good bottle of wine and reading your poetry to one another. ” This is so humbling Joni. You left me speechless. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
May your talent shine forever. Stay blessed and inspired honeybun.

      1. You are so welcomed sweet Button. I mean every word I say. Honest to a fault my bosses use to say about me. Love and many hugs dear Button. Please continue to stay safe my dear friend. J (honeybun)

  4. Wow! Love this Gabriela! I am a big fan of the Arte Taurino and your poem is one of the best representations of the passion, the intensity and the tragedy of it all…”stars are deaf eternity is stopping” this is a great image, surreal, symbolic and just plain beautiful!

    1. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Francisco.
“I am a big fan of the Arte Taurino.” So am I and, I knew that about you from your paintings. I find myself attracted to your work by a multitude of things. Arte Taurino is one of them. You are an exceptional artist.
“your poem is one of the best representations of the passion, the intensity and the tragedy of it all” You touched my soul. I am humbled by your praise. Thank you again. I have several poems like this one but I ran into some problems when I posted them on other social media outlets. My WP friends are wonderful but WP is different from other social media outlets. I was accused that I am promoting violence against animals. So I stopped posting my own version of “Arte Taurino.” I don’t need to tell you that this is art, tradition, and not promoting violence against animals but .. remember our discussion re: Columbus and CortΓ©s.
I can make a post and highlight the differences between art and promoting violence against animals. I can bring out the best research on Arte Taurino. I have access to a university library and by extension to all university libraries in the world. I have friends who teach art in top universities. But I am not going to do so. That goes to expertise. And generally men are experts. Women are just nice and sweet. And if they are not “nice” and claim expertise they pay a praise. As my father told me numerous times: “Remember my love when it comes to expertise men like men and women like men. So what you have to do is work 10 times harder than a man, be sweet, and hope that some day in some form and shape your work we’ll be recognized. There are other ways too, but I doubt you want to go there” Those were his words. To this day I live by them and I can attest that he was right. Of course a have my small world of mine where things are different but that’s another story.

I’ve already said too much. However, I wrote too much – and I apologize – in the hope that you will understand how much I appreciate your kindness, your support and how much your words mean to me.
      Nuchisimas gracias
una flor de primavera para ti Francisco.
      Gabriela

      1. No, you’ve not written too much, you’ve written what you needed to write and I appreciate it. I never thought of things in terms of male or female. In my profession I had women bosses who were as tough and as powerful as any man, some of them I really missed, others not so much but I learned from them. I know that old timers resented women in positions of authority but that was not my reality. My mother was a doctor and very independent and my grandmother, who practically raised me was very strong and straightforward, she was manchega and if you know about Castellanos, they can be rather hard people but generous…anyways I truly value your expertise, your knowledge and ability as a writer and you demonstrate that skill, that art to all of us so delightfully that it captivated us and seduces us. Take good care Gabriela, and thank you.
        πŸ’šπŸŒΉπŸ™‚

      2. I did write too much. I should have not. Thank you for your understanding. I am not going to say another word about that.
Also thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. You talked about your mother. That’s precious. She was an MD. I find that very interesting πŸ™‚ Oh, and the grandmother. That is precious too. Your words brought tears in my eyes. Castellanos… yes I know them.
I don’t have any expertise in arts. As I told you before when it comes to arts I am just a simple women who grew up in and who has now an environment filled with the beauty of art. That is all. My expertise is different from art. “Captivate and seduce us.” I am humbled beyond words.
I don’t drink at all but I think I’ll have a glass of red tonight: to friendship, to love, to this world of ours that we wound every day, to a tomorrow in which I promise to give more than I receive, and to you, to your art, and to your success.
        Gabriela

Thank you again. You are an exceptional person.
        Gabriela

      5. Bon dΓa Gabriela, ojalΓ‘ este sea un bello dΓa…you are an exceptional person too! Ya estΓ‘ llegando la hora de andar, I do footing πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ in my flat every day, 3k…
Ciao bella parliamo a presto 🌷

  5. My favorite lines:

“roses from my hair fall on your wounds
    stars are deaf
    eternity is stopping”

The surrealistic imagery in those lines pack a good punch.

Beautifully well captured and expressed and the whole poem compliments the incredibleness your work presents. πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Charlie

      1. I think I am Charlie. Problem is I am so busy that I have very little time left for anagrams and riddles. They are great. I really wish I would have more time.

  6. I can hear the thundering of the bulls G, and the abrupt and poignant silence at the end:

β€œroses from my hair fall on your wounds
stars are deaf
eternity is stopping”

I think my heart stopped too. You conjure such feeling, and in this one, sound and passion are palpable. So wonderful G.

And eeek!!! It’s the 14th now, not just for me!! Xoxoxo
