A whole week #flash fiction #short prose

A whole week.

Seven agonizing nights; seven suffocating nights rushing over me, parching my soul with their torrid breezes.
Myriads of mosquitoes murmuring in the dark, looking for prey: my own flesh, my own blood.

Nights extending their heavy tentacles over the city, strangling it as a venomous octopus; abandoning it at sunrise lacking vigor, emptied of hopes, filled with trash.

Glued to my body, lace and silk soaked in perspiration: fingers of delirious passions looking for my skin.

In this city clocks have no hands, years have no months, months have no days.  Outside of time, this city is innocent, perverse, philosophical, suicidal.

Shadows of your eyes

Fragments of your love.

Dark.

  1. So vivid one can feel the sting of the mosquitos. “Nights extending their heavy tentacles over the city, strangling it as a venomous octopus; abandoning it at sunrise lacking vigor, emptied of hopes, filled with trash.” These phrases are captivating and agonizing. I also love the touch of seduction in this piece. Thanks for these glances into your much awaited book beautiful Button. Have a blessed day and please take great care of yourself. Love 💕 Joni

Thank you again Joni. Have a blessed weekend, sweetheart. It’s finally spring. May your spring be filled with joy and beauty.

    1. Oh, thank you so much for your beautiful words my dearest Punam. You are such a wonderful soul. May you be safe, blessed, and loved.
      Yours
      G.

  4. Good morning G,

You have taken mere words and added so much meaning to each and everyone. Time nevr seemed so painfully long. It’s the way you create images and emotions (this time of despair, fear) that separate you from the rest of us writers.

This may be the best piece of fiction I have ever read from you. WHAT IS BEYOND BRAVO? That is what this piece deserves.

Even in the darkness of the times we are currently living in, you little dark piece illuminates the world.

    xo

    1. Good morning Drew
Aw… such a high praise. You make me blush like your moon. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
“WHAT IS BEYOND BRAVO?” Silence. And looking into my eyes 🙂 The realm of dreams.
“Even in the darkness of the times we are currently living in, you little dark piece illuminates the world.” This is really humbling Drew. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m sending you a kiss. This is the second virtual kiss I’am sending you in two years (?). I am counting my kisses 🙂
Take care Drew and thank you again.

      1. Oh, sweet G. In this time of crisis, we should not be a hoarder. LOL. (Seriously, I am almost drowning in tears of laughter).

This really is one of those most amazing things I have ever read. The feeling and mood are so deep.

Feelings a little better I hope?

      2. I am glad I made you laugh. I am feeling much better. I was kind of scared but I am ok now. I have to start packing. I am leaving tomorrow to visit family. I have to. Since we all teach virtually now I may stay even longer.
        Take care Drew
        G.

      3. Good to be around family during tough times.
Please keep yourself safe from harm. Wish you and yours all the very best. En las buenas y en las malas, siempre te tengo en mis oraciones.

        Safe travels.

  5. Absolutely loved this poem, but this line was so surreal that it captivated me: “Shadows of your eyes…” the thought is incredible, very deep, very perplexing and beautiful. Amazing work Gabriela…

    1. Oh, thank you Francisco. I am really happy you liked this piece. It makes me feel wonderful.
Today is Poetry Day. Where is your celebratory poem, my dearest friend?
      Hope everyone stays safe.
      xoxo

      1. Did not know it was poetry day! Well…yes, I truly loved it. All good here in quarantined Spain but I think it is working. I don’t listen to the news or read anything that has to do with CV but from what I perceive, I think the cases must be less and less, we are already in quarantine for 7 days so there has been very little contact and the people are very disciplined and everyone keeps their distance and wears gloves and masks…I am very proud of my valencianos! Stay aware, alert and indoors, Gabriela, it’s the best way to be safe.
        Love from the trenches,
        F.

      2. I am glad you guys are ok. You are a very proud Valencian, aren’t you ? It’s heartwarming to see your love for one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Thank you so much for your kind wishes, Francisco. I decided to travel so I am going to leave tomorrow (classes are online and everything else in the university was canceled anyway).
I do not know why when I read “Love from the trenches,” – great line by the way, great title for a poem, a touch of Camus in it – I thought at the battle of Gallipoli (perhaps your Turkey video).
Love from my heart Francisco. Stay safe!
        Gabriela

    1. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your beautiful comment. I am humbled and honored by it. It made my afternoon.
Kind wishes and please stay safe.
      Gabriela

    1. Oh, thank you so much. I love your work and I am proud of following you too.
Have a beautiful rest of the day and stay safe.
      Gabriela 🌸

      1. God, that is so tragic. Please take good care of yourself.
        Blessings 💐💕🌸

  6. Oh my goodness G. Another masterpiece:.. I felt trapped in this mosquito ridden nightmare, and you create that feeling like it is me experiencing it. I LOVE the ending

“Outside of time, this city is innocent, perverse, philosophical, suicidal.
    Shadows of your eyes
    Fragments of your love.
    Dark.”

I’m breathless. I cannot wait to read you book. I need to.

Love and hugs dear G 💝😘🌸

    1. Hello sweetheart. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment. I know you are busy so your comment means a lot to me.
I am so glad you liked the piece. And thank you for mentioning my book.
“I’m breathless.” When I read this I got tears in my eyes, Rachel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Sending you love, hugs, and the whispers of spring.
      xoxoxo
      G.

      1. Never too busy to read your words – it’s something I love to do and treasure. Your prose and poetry does leave me breathless dear G. It leaves me intrigued, speechless, it transports me, it fills me with emotion and wonder. Your words touch me.

I heard your whispers of spring. Those touched me too xoxox

      2. Oh, my fabulous Rachel you covered me with compliments and love. Thank you so much, sweetheart.
Feel the whisper of my gratitude and friendship. Is coming to you. Crossing the ocean right now.
        Take care of yourself Rachel

    1. Thank you so much Lucy. I am humbled and honored by your words, but my blog is award-free. That does not mean that I am not flattered and touched by your gesture. I am and I thank you again from the bottom of my heart for thinking of me.
      xoxo
      Gabriela

      1. Hey Gabriela.
I don’t mind if you don’t take the award. The nomination is me just trying to show you that I appreciate your blog and enjoy reading it!
