it’s our wedding
it’s midnight
waves wash our naked feet
your face is shaved
my hair smells almonds
your tears cover my veiled lips

songs of nightingales
new pearls are braided on my dress
borrowed lace adorns my hips
your grandmother’s cross
sparks on my white chest

look!
leaves rustle in a tree
the water turns to wine
moons rise from the sea
like at the mystic wedding
in Cana of Galilee

in Cana of Galilee” I just love this poetry and all the beautiful imagery. I especially love the ending which my husband reminded me that this wedding takes place in John 2 and would be on a Tuesday on the Jewish calendar. Such a glorious work of art beautiful Button.     1. Thank you so much, Francisco. I am humbled by your words. Am I singing? You tell me. “Paolo Veronese would have been proud to have your poem accompany his painting” It’s a lot to hope for but I’ll take your beautiful words and cherish them. After all they are coming from you 🙂
      For two years I’ve been trying to finish this poem. I couldn’t write the third stanza. The poem was on my blog in its first form one year ago. One of my readers noticed the initial meaning behind the poem: his shaved face, her new peals, the smell of almonds: funeral not wedding.
      Well, I rewrote it and now it’s all about an imaginary wedding.
      Anyway, thank you and I hope everyone is ok with you guys. The news are not good but let’s hope this nightmare ends soon. 🙂

      1. It is a beautiful poem and I really loved it. All fine here…well, the country is on mandatory lockdown so everyone is inside, going out only to walk the dog, go to the supermarket or to the pharmacy, or to work, if you are not working from home…but, I guess we went through worse, like the civil war…
        take good care and stay safe, stay indoors, it’s the prudent thing to do to see if we can get rid of this pandemic as quickly as possible…

      2. Spain went through a lot, indeed. I am glad you are safe and again my heart is with everyone who suffers now.
        They canceled the classes here. We are starting next week online only. It’s a bit chaotic as it is not clear how some seminars and labs can be taught online, but it’s better to be safe.

      3. Yes, it is better to be safe. It is all for the better good. The Spanish Army is now patrolling Madrid and places where people may congregate illegally but I think it is necessary as many people just won’t listen and won’t learn, I guess prudence is something that must be taught and some never learned. The important thing that people need to know is that we must control the spread of this virus and this is the only way. Stay safe, positive and indoors!

      4. I thought that the Spanish army would do that… perhaps you know why. But that’s good. As you said the virus needs to be contained. People need to be safe.

It’s part of Article 116 of our constitution and that may be only the beginning…but people have to be told and ordered if they are unwilling to learn for themselves…but I am proud of my people, so far there is much cooperation, at least here in our Valencia…let’s see, this is like Columbus en route to discover America, he didn’t know what was coming every day, except that there was water below his ship…

Great music written by a Greek guy, Vangelis, great movie: Columbus played by a French guy: Gérard Depardieu; the conquest still Spanish.. Yet, these days it is politically incorrect to talk about that conquest so I keep it to myself and I play the music in the night only. Anyway there is not other house in 3 miles of mine 🙂 I guess it’s night when I am tired and I want to get my blood going again. So I listen to the “the conquest of paradise,”

That sounds like a beautiful act that you do…I remember years ago I always listened to Pagliaccio every morning while drinking my coffee…but isn’t it a straight fact that Columbus discovered America and that he was Genovese but working for la Reina Doña Isabel y el Rey Don Fernando? What does politics have to do with it?

      1. Well, in our first book (Daybreak: Flatlined), vampires can become human if 3 give up drinking blood. The 3rd one has fallen in love and is trying, but his boss (the first vampire and a fallen angel) is hunting him down using demons to find him and his girlfriend (who is an immortal that can kill his boss). The apocalypse is only a few years away and chaos ensued. Vampires are flatliners, and on our site we started a blog-drama as an extension of the world in the books. Part of that extension is what kind of magazines vampires would read and that is where featuring you comes in. Thank you for accepting our feature. The post will be up by the end of the week :).

        I am thrilled you want to feature my poem but I don’t remember agreeing to that. I remember saying I was flattered by your offer and asking more about you. Now that I know more I am afraid that my poem does not match your project at all and therefore it should not be published.

        First, I am not a magazine. Short prose is my private blog.
        Second, the poem makes clear reference to the wedding in Cana of Galilee the scene of Jesus’ first miracle.
        Third, none of my writings refer to vampires. Not that I cannot write about but it has nor been my focus until now.
        Again thank you for your offer and sorry I cannot agree to the publication of my poem.

  26. Oh I am so sorry. We did not see the comment after your initial questions. We would be happy to take down the excerpt we used. The other authors said thank you for the offer too and waited for the feature and due to our release date we pushed everyone through.
