wooden bed (rewritten) #poem #poetry

I know some fields
in which the poppies smile
when blonde sunsets play classical guitar
I know the coffee shop in which you stop
the gypsy lady who foretold our luck

I love you
and I’m sorry that you fell in love with me…
now please listen,
I do have to go
remember our waterfall we liked so much
don’t sell the wooden bed in which we first made love
the dress embroidered by my mother’s hands
save the letters that my father wrote before he died
and do not cry

I’m rushing
guards are coming
my wrists will be soon stamped
yours forever,
from a concentration camp

  1. a last letter, one of goodbye but filled with so much more, a will of sorts for future generations, preserving a part of history that need to be told. i so love you first stanza, the start of that love, the memories that make sense only for these two. Oh I am now creating the images and connections and they are so beautifully written by you.

    1. Thank you, Gina. Every word you wrote means a lot to me. Sending lots of love and hugs to one of my dearest friends: you.

  2. “I know some fields
    in which the poppies smile
when blonde sunsets play classical guitar” such a beautiful start to your amazing verse of a love cut short! Ah, the images you create, my friend! ❤️🌷💞

    1. Aw… thank you so much. I am trilled you liked those images.
Wishing you a beautiful rest of the day.

  3. Good morning G,

You have brought to life a dark period in this world, where hate dominated. Yet, your words remind us love still shined bright. Love of family and love of our partner kept this world sane during a time nothing made sense.

    Beautifully written G. Bravo.

    1. Good morning Drew,
Thank you very much for your comment. It means a lot to me. I brought to life what I could. In fact very little. But we all do what we can.
Thank you again and have a restful day.
      G.

    1. Thank you, Francisco. I am truly touched by your kindness and your lovely words.
      Greetings from America.

  4. This is a lovely composition! I find it insightful and powerful that you show the love and concern the speaker has for another, while they are facing an uncertain, but likely, grave fate. To be more concerned about others than we are about ourselves is the most ideal condition of humanity. You represent this beautifully with your words!

    1. Thank you so much Brad for highlighting that particular part/meaning. That is something very dear to my heart.
“You represent this beautifully with your words!” I hope I did it Brad. I can only hope.
May your day be beautiful Brad.
      G.

    1. Thank you Joey. I am trilled you think so.
I got your message. I’ll get back to you soon.
      G.

      1. No rush. I didn’t want any confusion since I enjoy totally changing my blog every six months or so 😝

      2. Yes, I noticed that. Don’t worry I figured out pretty quick that it was you 🙂

  5. Oh how this imagery is vivid, in the details, the letters, the dress, and the bed brings this piece to life in a way the movie transports us to a moment a scene we never forget. Gabriela this is so beautifully written. The ending so filled with such a variety of emotion the heart is overwhelmed. I think it is so important to write, read and never forget this time in history so it never happens again. You have made us look at the humanity, the love of two souls. Bravo! Have a blessed day beautiful button. Love 💕 Joni

    1. Joni, my dear, I am trying to find the words to thank you for your beautiful comment and for the beautiful soul that you are. It means a lot to me that you took the time to write such a wonderful and thoughtful comment. It really does. I am humbled by every word you wrote.
Have a blessed day hon and much love to you: now and forever.

    1. Aw, Eric… thank you so much! You do know how touch my heart.
Take care my dear friend and congrats again.

    1. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind words. Please know that I want you to be well.
      Sending you lots of blessings.

  6. I remember this poem G, it’s impossible to forget… the love, the urgency, the sadness. The things she wants to tell him, so intimate and poignant. The images in her mind of them that she would take with her…
“don’t sell the wooden bed in which we first made love”

I love the additions you’ve made to this, a little more of their story, the poppies, the gypsy (she was new?).

Have a wonderful day, my gorgeous friend xoxox

    1. Hi, my beautiful Rachel, I don’t know how I missed this comment. Will you forgive me?
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful words. It makes me feel good that you remember the poem.
“a little more of their story, the poppies, the gypsy (she was new?).” No, that’s not new. Actually I took a stanza out. However, to be honest with you Rachel, I am afraid that this poem does not come together the way it should. I am still thinking about.
Sending you hugs, chocolates, and plenty of flower in the hope that you will forgive my late reply.
      xoxoxo

      1. Nothing to apologise for, I haven’t been on here this weekend so I’m behind with reading and replies too. And, I have not written anything! Life has been too busy really. I hope you are well dear Gabriela. I’m worried about the world. Are you?

I could never forget that poem, I’m disappointed with myself I didn’t spot what was new and what was not correctly. How come you are not sure it comes together how you’d want it too? I am surprised you think this, it is so powerful.

Much love my dear friend, borders being closed won’t stop the kind of chocolates and flowers I send to you across the sea. Never. Nothing is impossible in our imaginations xoxoxo

      2. Oh, I hope you had a wonderful weekend Rachel. Do not worry about me sweetheart. I am ok. Take care of you.
“I’m worried about the world. Are you?”
I am worried and I am furious. We had the means to stop this disaster. If the structures of power would have cared a bit more. That’s all I will say here. I am really mad.
“Much love my dear friend, borders being closed won’t stop the kind of chocolates and flowers I send to you across the sea. Never. Nothing is impossible in our imaginations xoxoxo”

That is so wonderful of you Rachel. Sending you love, flowers, hugs and good wishes. And nobody can stop them to get to you.
        xoxo

  7. Very poignant G. The emotion in the piece is not fierce, but gentle and powerful. I enjoy pieces like this that make your heart burn a little and then make you smile wistfully.

    1. Nitin, so good to hear from you. You don’t show up too often on WP so this is a real treat for me.
Thank you so much for your wonderful worlds. I am really pleased you liked the piece. How is the writing going?

      1. I do take long breaks, but I return now and then. Sometimes I feel like inspiration has left me altogether, but then it returns. I can never force writing. I end up making too many mistakes and sounding shallow when I do. It’s great to hear from you G! I hope you are well.

      2. Nitin, you are one of the most talented writers I’ve ever read.
“Sometimes I feel like inspiration has left me altogether” It feels like this sometimes. But it cannot leave you. You are the real thing. It will come back, do not worry. It will.
I hope you are well too.
        G.

      3. I hope you are not giving up, period. Even if you have to wait a year or two. It will come back to you. Great writing is you.

    2. I actually see that you posted lately. I just set my notifications for your blog.
      Take care.
      G.
