Glass Lovers [Miriam] #short prose #flash fiction

We sat there in the shadows of Sacré-Cœur, our laughter gone, our wills broken, our souls scarred, longing for what once was us. A heavy darkness was staring back at me from a white abstract past, like Malevich’s Black Square hanging on a cracked wall.

Who was to blame for all that happened? We had no answer. We could not judge ourselves anymore. We did that too many times. We got nowhere.

God did not promise us anything before we were born. He did not promise us anything even after we were born.

Miguel and Jacques looked petrified.

I gazed at Miriam. She spoke.

Miriam and that beautiful face of hers, her short black dresses scented with jasmine, her love for Jacques whispering like shadows on the roofs of Paris during purple dawns. Miriam and her paintings violating the silence of her studio from which one could see Notre-Dame. Miriam watching Rodin’s Gates of Hell for hours at the time. I always wondered what she thought about.

Now I think I know.

  1. Good morning G,

Aaah, you did it to us again. Leading us on and leaving us hanging with a little intrigue with “what was she thinking.” The narrator thinks he/she has it figured out, but we are left in the dark. Beautiful writing. Always
    so rich and life like.

    Loved the installment G.

    1. Good morning Drew,
Thank you so much for your kind comment and for the read. “we are left in the dark” Oh, I want to leave you in the dark” Just for a while don’t worry 🙂 I hope your morning is bright and filled with a gentle island breeze.
I see you are up and running. Good. Remember to take it easy.
I wish you a lovely restful day and thank you for being here to support me.
      G.

      1. Smiling over here. I read the gentle breeze comment as one was flowing through my hair. Very soothing.
Trying to get back into the swing of blogging while still trying to take it easy. (No longer have your energy level).

Now, regarding your poem, yes “you wantng to leave us in the dark.” That is WICKED. Need to find Harry Potter so he can undo your potions of poetry and prose.

        I will always be here.
Have a gorgeous day G. Stay bewitching.

      2. I am glad you are taking it easy, Drew. You know I wish you all the best in the world. And then you stole one of my tropical island and I did not say anything. May the beauty of that island heal you.
“WICKED” Oh, no, I always thought I belong to the House of Gryffindor. No Slytherins. But then was Happy Potter …???? It’s complicated when it comes to wicked 🙂

Be loved. May goodness shine of you. May the beautiful sunsets of that island heal you.
        G.

      3. I am glad to hear that. All sunsets are yours. I am not writing about sunsets anymore 😉

    1. Aw… Bo, I am really humbled by your comment. Seriously so happy you liked it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
      Computer ok?
      xoxo

  2. Such a descriptive scene, I can feel the tension. “her love for Jacques whispering like shadows on the roofs of Paris during purple dawns.” Beautiful and gripping Gabriela. Love and hugs Joni 💕💕

    1. Oh, my dearest Joni, thank you for reading and for your beautiful comment. I am thrilled you think is “Beautiful and gripping.” It means a lot to me.
Have a beautiful rest of the day, honey bun.
      xoxoxo…

    1. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment. It means a lot to me. Apparently it can happen more than once 🙂
Enjoy the rest of your day.
      Gabriela

  3. Hola Gabriela, and good morning to you! That’s a beautifully written story that you’ve shown us as an excerpt…nice thoughts, nice transitions from reality to a sort of surrealist perception of life, describing a moment. Lovely narration and lovely images…I was transported to Paris…
    Have a lovely day,
    Abrazos de Valencia,
    F.

    1. Good afternoon Francisco,
I hope is a splendid afternoon tailored just for you, one of the most talented painters I’ve met.
“transitions from reality to a sort of surrealist perception of life” Symbolists and surrealists were my first love. They still are. Oh, I hate my faithfulness some times. I didn’t get to dadaism yet. I am bit reluctant when it comes to Tristan Tzara – he definitely was one of the greatest- that I can recognize- despite the fact that I am not crazy about his style. Surrealist painters are my forever love. I said sometime I’ll rank them privately just for you.
Well, have a beautiful day in Valencia and thank you for reading my excerpt.
      G.

      1. Thank you Gabriela…and I am thrilled you like my art work…I love surrealism as well and they sort of surged from the Dadaists…I remember that from Theatre School at the university in Florida…yes, I would love to see your ranking. It is a beautiful day, still early not yet seven in the afternoon…you too, have a lovely American day!
        F.

      2. I love your art Francisco. It speaks to me. It opens universes of beauty and passion.

        1. Dali 1. Magritte (I cannot really pick a winner here)
        2.. I am still thinking.
        3. Picasso. 3. Modigliani
        4. I am thinking…

        🙂
        Gabriela.

      3. I can see why you would not, There is a case to be made in support of your opinion. Yet some of his works bring my heart to a stop.
        🙂

      4. I don’t disagree about some of the works, but the question, from the perspective of art history, is who made them? There are more Dali forgeries than anything else and even he left thousands of signed papers (cartulinas para hacer dibujos y otras pinturas) which anyone could have painted with his signature…that is the problem, plus, as a person, he was not a very nice guy. He mistreated animals, especially cats and that is enough for me to dislike him…
        ciao bella ci parliamo subito
        F.

      5. Francisco, I agree a case can be made against Dali. I said that.

“He mistreated animals, especially cats and that is enough for me to dislike him…” Don’t tell me you are a cat lover! Nobody loves cats more than I do. And my cat is the most beautiful, smart, warm, sweet, etc… cat in the entire world 🙂
        à bientôt, mon ami
        G.

      6. I do have a wonderful cat. Her name is Maya.
        Thank you Francisco.
        Hugs
        G.
