I am humbled that I was voted Author of the Year at Spillwords Press.  Thank you to everyone who voted for me, and thank you to the wonderful team at Spillwords Press (NYC).

  1. Hola Gabriela i bona vesprada…Just read your interview and congratulations!!! A most well deserved honour to a beautiful person and a great artist that writes such incredible works, so rich in imagery and movement, depth and feeling as well as passion. And you are right, a professional is made in universities but an artist has to make him/herself and must vindicate his/herself with every work produced. Talent takes time and effort. The old saying that “practice makes perfect” is solid truth and not only perfect that it makes, it develops in the artist his/her talent. Art is not a random process. It is deliberate and must be guided by the consciousness of the artist and you are one of the great ones! May you truly enjoy the honour you’ve been given.

        and steal a kiss
        then disappear
        into the foggy bliss…

        and give me the romance

        the sound of mandolins
        on nights of love
        the mysteries of shadows
        in the autumn streets
        the heaviness of fruits
        from morning gardens filled with sun
        cover your eyes..

        I am not as good as you are today. I’ll figure out something better tomorrow 🙂

      1. Thank you for your gracious reply. Reading your post made the day even more beautiful.

        On a side note; on my way home from the doctor, I really needed a drink to settle my nerves. For three months the only liquid I have digested was water. Stopped in a Cuban restaurant, Padrino. Ordered a key lime pie and a glass of milk. And I remembered you.

        We discussed key lime pie one time. Don’t remember the conversation, but the pie reminded me of you. Crazy.

        Oh, I remember our discussions about key lime pie, those about mojitos (from time time only) and sunsets. You accused me of stealing your sunsets (as in poetry) 🙂

You are so deserving of this fantastic award. Your work is brilliant in my humble opinion. It transports me to beautiful and sometimes dark imaginary places. I get lost in your imagery which speaks so deeply and magically to my heart. Your words are so splendidly put together that one gets lost in your words and discovers new places of beauty.
