“There are only as many realities as you care to imagine”

Lawrence Durrell, Balthazar

Covered by a sea of white lilies I lie in bed like felines lie in grass.

A cube of ice attempts in desperation not to melt inside an empty glass.

The nightโ€™s long fingers feverishly drop you on my left side.

Disoriented I turn and look at you.

Your hands get stuck in my hair like bunnies in a trap.

My silver icons sick with shyness cover their eyes.

Your touches wake me up

My nails aim at your shoulders

Soft vowels change the time

I start thrilling my Rs

Eros plays his dice

The planets change direction

There is no turning back

Our bodies feed on trees

Rivers stretch like cats

The air is drunk with roses

The stars are drops of blood

Exhalations of hot summers

Tie our souls into a forever knot

You on my left side?

Is this a dream or what?

    1. I see. Thank you for your answer. To clarify, my intent was to describe a dream. However, I respect your interpretation.

  1. Good morning G. Dreamy illustrations in this one. White lillies, an ice cube that refuses to melt, hands stuck in hair like bunnies in a trap. all so perfectly descriptive. You chose a most delightful and sensual reality.
Your thrilling R’s made me smile.

I do have one question and I am not trying to be funny. I know love/glove and bright/light are referred to as perfect rhymes. Is there a term for that beautiful rhyme to end your poem? knot/what They are two words that wouldn’t immediately pop into one’s head when composing a rhyme scheme. Please educate me when you havce a moment. Thanks.

Always in awe of your writing.

    1. Good morning, Drew,

Thank you so much for your generous comment! I always like the word “delightful.” It warms my heart!

“Your thrilling Rโ€™s made me smile.” I am smiling too.

I am sorry, but I can’t educated you on that. The pair knot/what just popped up in my mind. Words come to me ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you are enjoying your morning coffee ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Still smiling, too.
While the rest of us mere mortals are laboring to write poetry, things just pop into your head.
        Bravo Mademoiselle.

My morning coffee & your poetry for breakfast. What more could a man want to start is day?

Did the snow affect you? Drive safely dear.

        Have a gorgeous day G.

      2. Aw… you are so sweet this morning, Drew. You know you are not a mere mortal. You are a very talented writer.

“My morning coffee & your poetry for breakfast. What more could a man want to start is day?” Maybe the a half of grapefruit ๐Ÿ™‚

No snow here, Drew. No driving. I am staying in today. I am under the weather.

        Have a magical day!

      3. I made a mistake. my apologies. You are sweet all the time.

I’ll try to feel better. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. The rhythm and passion of the poem match the subject matter so well! I always love falling under the spell of your work. I also appreciated the quote from Durrel’s Alexandria Quartet. (Thank you again for introducing me to those books!) This piece feels almost like something that would appear in one of the novels.

    1. Hey there, David! So good to hear from you!
Thank you so much for your taking the time to read and for your wonderful comment.

In one of his novels? Aw.. I wish. Durrell is my favorite novelist. But then, I did not read your books yet. I am waiting ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I so enjoyed this! I love the line about the ice cube, rivers stretching like cats and air drunk with roses, but my favourite lines are:
    โ€˜Exhalations of hot summers
Tie our bodies into a forever knotโ€™

  4. Haven’t read much of your stuff, but I loved this one. I liked /Eros played his dice/ and the many lines after; this has to be the classiest and most poetic wordsmithing regarding an erotic encounter I have ever read; incredible.
